The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Carleton Place Canadians to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Jan. 17, in the CCHL2. RICHMOND—The Winchester Hawks played three games in four nights this past weekend as they travelled to Ottawa on Thursday night to take on the Ottawa West Golden Knights, welcomed the Carleton Place Canadians on Friday night and travelled to Richmond on Sunday afternoon to take on the Royals.
Hawks 7 Royals 3
The Winchester Hawks travelled to the Richmond Arena on Sun., Jan. 19, to take on the Royals, in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in fifth place in the Martin Division just five points behind the Casselman Vikings in fourth place and were riding a two-game winning streak this week.
The Hawks opened the scoring when Noah Fraser slammed home his second goal of the season from Ryan Nielson and Marco Haw at 15:03 of the first period on the power play to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks took a two-goal lead when Haw scored his 12th of the season from Eric Vitale and Jacob Giacobbi just 27 seconds later. The Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Hawks made it 3-0 when Vitale scored his 22nd of the season from Danny Johnson just 2:26 into the second period on the power play. The Hawks made it 4-0 when Johnson scored his ninth of the campaign from Nolan Guertin at 5:56.
The Royals scored a pair of quick goals at 12:14 and 18:16 to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Hawks increased the spread to three again as Fraser scored his second of the game and third of the season from Giacobbi and Kyle Fleming with just three seconds showing on the clock in the middle frame. The Hawks took a
5-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Hawks made it a
6-2 game when Colby Schroeder scored his sixth of the season unassisted at 7:39 of the third period.
The Hawks increased their lead to five when Nelson pounded home his fifth of the season from Guertin and Johnson on the power play at 12:13. The Royals added a late goal at 15:43 but that was as close as they could get as the Hawks hung on for a 7-3 victory.
It was the Hawks’ third consecutive win of the week and they moved to within three points of the idle Casselman Vikings with three games in hand. The Hawks outshot the Royals 39-27.
Picking up the win in the Hawks’ goal was Lucas Devries making 24 saves.
Hawks 4 Canadians 3
The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Carleton Place Canadians to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Jan. 17, in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in fifth place in the Martin Division, seven points behind the Casselman Vikings in fourth place after the Vikings beat the Alexandria Glens the previous night.
The Canadians opened the scoring at 13:37 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. Despite the Hawks outshooting the Canadians 22-11 in the first period, they trailed 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
The Hawks tied the game at 15:33 when Kyle Kuehni ripped home his 17th goal of the season from Ryan Nielson and Danny Johnson. The Hawks took their first lead of the game when Eric Vitale scored his 21st of the season from Marco Haw and Garrett Craig at 16:13.
The Canadians got back to even with 1:52 remaining and the teams took a two-all draw into the second intermission. The Canadians retook the lead just 1:55 into the third period while short handed but the Hawks got that one back at 9:44 when Noah Guertin scored his third of the season from Kyle Green and Noah Fraser.
It appeared the game was headed to overtime but with just 48 seconds remaining, the Hawks’ Colby Schroeder fired home his fifth of the campaign from Kyle Fleming and Guertin on the power play. The Canadians pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but the Hawks were able to fend off the Canadians’ attack holding on, to take the game 4-3.
With the win, the Hawks moved to within five points of the Casselman Vikings in fourth place. The Hawks outshot the Canadians
52-37.
Picking up the win in the Hawks’ goal was Cole Defazio making 34 saves.
Hawks 5 Rebels 3
The Winchester Hawks travelled to the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Tues., Jan. 14, to take on the Char-Lan Rebels in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in fifth place in the Martin Division, seven points behind the Casselman Vikings in fourth place and just three points up on the Rebels in sixth.
The Rebels pretty much needed the win as they try to catch the Hawks for the final playoff spot. The Rebels opened the scoring at 11:08 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks tied the game at 12:36 when Eric Vitale scored his 20th goal of the season from Marco Haw. The teams took a one-all draw into the first intermission.
The Hawks took their first lead of the game when Noah Fraser scored his first as a Hawk at 5:39 from Kyle Green and Kyle Fleming.
The Rebels knotted the affair at two, at 7:56 but the Hawks retook the lead at 11:16 when Green scored his eighth of the season from Fraser. The Hawks took their first two-goal lead of the game when Kyle Kuehni scored his 16th of the season from Danny Johnson and Colby Schroeder at the 18-minute mark and took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Hawks made it a three-goal spread when Fleming scored his 14th of the season from Haw and Vitale just 49 seconds into the third period. The Rebels got one back at 12:20 but that was as close as they got as the Hawks scored a 5-3 victory.
The Rebels outshot the Hawks 44-34. Picking up the win in the Hawks’ goal was Lucas Devries making 41 saves.
