CLARENCE CREEK—The Morrisburg Lions played a pair of games this past weekend as they welcomed the South Grenville Rangers on Saturday night and travelled to Clarence Creek on Sunday afternoon to take on the Clarence Castors.

Castors 11 Lions 4

The Morrisburg Lions travelled to the Clarence Creek Arena on Sun., Dec. 15, to take on the Clarence Castors in the NCJHL. The Lions were coming off a humiliating 14-1 loss to the South Grenville Rangers the previous night and looked for a more positive outcome. The Castors sat in third place in the East Division with a record of 11-8-1. 

The Castors opened the scoring at 2:31 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Castors scored two more goals at 6:46 and 11:58 on a penalty shot. The Castors took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Castors made it 4-0 at 6:47 of the second period on the power play and made it 5-0 at 8:26. The Lions got on the score board at 10:18 as Cameron Fraser slid one home from Aiden Daly to cut the deficit to four. 

The Castors restored a five-goal lead at 13:06 but the Lions got that one back at 15:29 as Justice Brownlee sniped one from Wade Moak. The Castors took a 6-2 lead into the second intermission.

The Castors scored three goals in less than a minute to open the third period making it 9-2. The Lions got on the scoresheet again at 4:36 as Moak fired one to the back of the net unassisted but the Castors answered with a goal at 6:36. The Lions got that one back at 7:53 as Noah Edmonds ripped one home from Brownlee to make it 10-4. 

The Castors closed out the scoring at 15:30 taking the game easily 11-4. Suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Kamden Sabourin.

Rangers 14 Lions 1

The Morrisburg Lions welcomed the South Grenville Rangers to the Morrisburg Arena on Sat., Dec. 14, in the NCJHL. The Lions went into the game in fifth place in the West Division with just one win and a tie on the season while the powerhouse Rangers sat in first place in the West and league overall with just two losses on the season. 

The Rangers opened the scoring at 6:05 of the first period on the power play taking a 1-0 lead. The Rangers scored three more consecutive goals at 7:22, 11:02 on the power play and 14:46 making it 4-0. 

The Lions got one back when Justice Brownlee buried one from Wade Moak at 16:03 on the power play. The Rangers were not done scoring, knocking home another pair of goals before the buzzer sounded, at 16:53 and 18:16 on the power play. The Rangers took a 6-1 lead into the first intermission. 

It was all Rangers in the second period scoring another six goals at 10:37 on the power play, 11:17, 13:37, 16:17 shorthanded, 16:57 shorthanded and with 12 seconds remaining. The Rangers took a 12-1 lead into the second intermission. 

The Rangers scored the only two goals of the third period at 9:36 and 12:39 on the power play taking the game 14-1. 

The Rangers’ goal scorers were Jacob McGonegal with a hat trick, Copper Kingston, Nate Medaglia and Owen Webster scoring two each and Brody Ranger, Joe MacLean, Rhys Gibbons, Cameron Dillion and Kyle Dillabough with one marker apiece. The assists went to Mathieu Giroux, Medaglia, Jordan Poulin, Ranger and Webster with two each and Dillabough, Aiden Bailey, Dillon, Gibbons, Kingston and MacLean with singles. 

The Rangers outshot the Lions 57-24. Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Xavier Dusablon making 23 saves and suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Kamden Sabourin.
