WILLIAMSTOWN—The Casselman Vikings played a pair of games this past weekend as they welcomed the Brockville Tikis on Thursday night and travelled to Williamstown on Saturday night to take on the Char-Lan Rebels.

The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Sat., Dec. 7, to take on the Char-Lan Rebels in the CCHL2. The Vikings went into the game in third place in the Martin Division, two points behind the Embrun Panthers in second place and three back of the Ottawa West Golden Knights. 

The Vikings opened the scoring at 11:53 of the first period as Zachary Fournier scored his fifth goal of the season from Joshua Desjardins and Jason Cossette taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings took a two-goal lead when Alexandre Charlebois scored his eighth of the season unassisted at 13:17. 

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Rebels cut the deficit in half at 15:11 of the second period but trailed 2-1 heading into the second intermission. 

The Rebels tied the game at 3:09 of the third period on the power play but the Vikings retook the lead when Mathieu Talbot scored his 16th of the season from Frédérick Gagnier at 11:42 on the power play. 

The Rebels knotted the game at three at 15:48. The Vikings had a chance to take the lead on the power play with just under four minutes remaining but the Rebels surprised the Vikings scoring a shorthanded goal with just 2:36 remaining in regulation taking a 4-3 lead. 

The Vikings pulled their goaltender with about one minute remaining but were unable to score the equalizer as the Rebels took the game 4-3. The Vikings outshot the Rebels 35-33. Suffering the loss in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell making 29 saves.

The Vikings opened the scoring at 6:38 of the first period as Shawn Patterson scored his seventh goal of the season unassisted taking a 1-0 lead. Despite outshooting the Tikis 14-9 in the opening frame, the Vikings took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Vikings made it 2-0 when Patterson scored his second of the game and eighth of the season from Adam Paquette at 7:38 of the second period. The Tikis got to within one at 8:20 and tied the game at 13:49 while shorthanded. 

The Vikings retook the lead when François Drouin scored his 15th of the season from Xavier Léveillé and Samuel Labre with just 32 seconds remaining in the middle frame on the power play. The Vikings took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. 

The Tikis tied the game for a second time at 4:14 of the third period. With time winding down in regulation, the game appeared to be headed to overtime but with just 21 seconds remaining, the Vikings captain, Jason Cossette, lit the lamp for the 13th time this season from Nicolas Chartrand and Zachary Fournier and took the game 4-3. 

With the win, the Vikings moved into a first-place tie with the Panthers temporarily, but the Golden Knights beat the Richmond Royals 4-3 in overtime to take over first place. The Vikings outshot the Tikis 38-32. Picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell making 29 saves.
