WILLIAMSTOWN—The Embrun Panthers played three road games this past week as they travelled to Ottawa on Tuesday night to take on the Canadians, to Winchester on Friday night to take on the Hawks and to Williamstown on Saturday night to take on the Char-Lan Rebels.
Panthers 2 Rebels 0
The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Sat., Nov. 2, to take on the Rebels in the CCHL2. The Panthers were coming off a big 4-3 overtime win over the Winchester Hawks sitting in second place in the Martin Division just two points behind the Casselman Vikings in first place.
The teams battled to a scoreless first period with the Rebels outshooting the Panthers 9-8. The Panthers opened the scoring at 7:14 of the second period as Tristan Taillefer scored his 14th goal of the season from Matthieu Brennan and Robert Beaudoin on the power play.
The Panthers took the 1-0 lead into the second intermission. The Panthers made it 2-0 when Maverick Labrie scored his second of the season from Brennan and Jarrett Ladouceur at 17:42 of the third period.
The Panthers hung on for a 2-0 victory into a temporary first place tie with the Vikings. The Rebels outshot the Panthers 31-27. Picking up the shutout in the Panthers’ goal was William Nguyen making 31 saves.
Panthers 5 Canadians 4 (OT)
The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Earl Armstrong Arena in Ottawa to take on the Ottawa Jr. Canadians on Oct. 29, in the CCHL2. The Panthers picked up points in their last five games and moved up to third place in the Martin Division, sitting just two points behind the Canadians who were holding down the number two spot.
The Panthers opened the scoring when Robert Beaudoin scored his 10th goal of the season from Luke Peck at 3:14 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Canadians tied the game on the power play at 13:29.
The Canadians took their first lead of the game at 17:08 and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Panthers tied the game just 2:24 into the second period as Jeremy Cyr scored his second of the season from Beaudoin.
The Panthers took their second lead of the game when Juno Gregoire scored his seventh of the season from Marshall Drevniok and Matthieu Brennan at 4:43. The Panthers made it 4-2 when Tristan Taillefer scored his 13th of the season from Tyler Cummins at 5:13.
The Canadians got one back with 2:57 remaining in the middle frame but trailed 4-3 heading into the second intermission. The Canadians knotted the affair at four, just 22 seconds into the third period. Neither team was able to score the game winner before the clock wound down to zeros, so the game headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime period.
It took the Panthers just 22 seconds into the extra frame as Eric Skyba scored his second of the season becoming the overtime hero from Carter Peck. With the win, the Panthers moved to within one point of the Canadians in second place.
The Panthers outshot the Canadians 39-31. Picking up the win in the Panthers’ goal was Felix Schnell making 27 saves.
