CLARENCE CREEK—The North Dundas Rockets played two games this past weekend as they welcomed the Metcalfe Jets on Saturday night and travelled to Clarence Creek on Sunday afternoon to take on the Clarence Castors.

The North Dundas Rockets travelled to the Clarence Creek Arena on Sun., Oct. 28, to take on the Clarence Castors in the NCJHL. After tying the Metcalfe Jets 4-4 in their previous game, the Rockets remained in a second place tie with the Jets in the West Division as they looked to move into sole possession of second. 

The Castors sat in fifth place in the East Division with four wins and four losses. The Rockets opened the scoring when Cole Hedges roofed one from Brad Nash just 23 seconds into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. 

The Rockets made it 2-0 when Justin Lefebvre pounded one to the back of the net from Matt Pietrkiewicz at 15:53. The Rockets took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Rockets made it 3-0 when Joel Hunt snapped one home from Lefebvre and Nick Carroll at 5:24 of the second period. 

The Castors cut into the deficit at 12:58 closing the gap to two. The Castors got to within one at 17:23 but trailed 3-2 heading into the second intermission. 

The Rockets restored a two-goal lead when Carroll sniped one from Hunt at 4:02 of the third period. The Castors got back to within one at 15:49 but the Rockets added an insurance marker as Nash fired one home from Hunt and Carroll at 16:50. The Rockets hung on for a 5-3 victory. With the win, the Rockets moved into sole possession of second place in the West Division. 

Picking up the win in the Rockets’ goal was Sebastien Moreau.

The North Dundas Rockets welcomed the Metcalfe Jets to the Chesterville Arena on Sat., Oct. 26, in the NCJHL. The Rockets went into the game in a second place tie with the Jets in the West Division, with each team having a 3-3 record. 

The Rockets opened the scoring just 41 seconds into the first period as Brodie Barkley riffled one home from the blue line from Joel Hunt taking a 1-0 lead. The Rockets made it 2-0 when Cam Sherrer undressed the Jets’ goalie at 10:04 from Barkley. 

The Rockets took a three-goal lead when Justin Lefebvre snapped home a rebound from Nick Carroll and Barkley at 12:15 on the power play. The Jets got one back with just 15 seconds remaining in the opening frame as Mark Brosseau slid one home from Mike Armstrong. The Rockets took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. 

The Jets got to within one as Alex MacNiel scored from Mikael Gibeault just 1:42 into the second period. The Rockets retook a two-goal lead when Lefebvre scored his second of the game from Carroll and Joel Hunt at 10:38. 

The Jets answered at 14:47 as Armstrong lit the lantern from Brosseau on the power play but trailed by one heading into the second intermission. 

Neither team was able to score until after the Jets pulled their goalie in favour an extra attacker making it count, as MacNiel scored his second of the game with just 42 seconds remaining in regulation. 

Neither team was able to score as the clock wound down to zero so the game headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime period. The Jets outshot the Rockets in the overtime frame 2-0 but neither team was able to pick up a victory settling for a four-all draw. 

The Jets outshot the Rockets 31-26. Playing in goal for the Rockets was Emmerson Hunt making 27 saves and in goal for the Jets was Jett Miller making 22 saves.
