ST. ISIDORE—The Lions played two road games this past weekend as they travelled to Cardinal on Saturday to take on the South Grenville Rangers and Sunday night to the St. Isidore Arena to take on the Eagles.
Eagles 9 Lions 2
The Morrisburg Lions travelled to the St. Isidore Arena on Sun., Oct. 27, to take on the Eagles in the NCJHL. The Lions were coming off their worst loss of the season 13-1 to the South Grenville Rangers and were looking to turn things around.
The Eagles opened the scoring at 4:45 onthe power play taking a 1-0 lead. The Eagles scored three more unanswered goals at 7:20, 10:53 and 15:35 and took a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Eagles kept the pressure on the Lions and took a five-goal lead at 2:39 of the second period. The Eagles scored two more unanswered goals at 15:22, and with just 33 seconds remaining in the middle frame. The Eagles took a 7-0 lead into the second intermission.
The Lions finally got on the board at 3:34 as Tyler Rae snapped one home from Tyson Sherrer and Cal Bilmer on the power play. The Eagles answered with a pair of goals at 12:54 and 15:17 making it a 9-1 game.
The Lions closed out the scoring with just 1:59 remaining as Aaron Smith pounded one home from Greg McMullen and Kevin Doyle. The eagles took them 9-2 handing the Lions their ninth loss of the season. Suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Riley Phillips.
Rangers 13 Lions 1
The Morrisburg Lions travelled to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal to take on the South Grenville Rangers on Sat., Oct. 26, in the NCJHL. The Lions owned the worst record in the league with no wins, six losses and one tie and would be in tough, as the Rangers sat at the top the West Division with just one loss.
The Rangers opened the scoring when Mathew Berry scored from Jacob Servage at the six-minute mark of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Lions knotted the affair when Aiden Daly scored an unassisted goal at 14:43 but the Rangers retook the lead when Cameron Dillon scored from Connor Van Luit and Braydon Forestell with just 1:34 remaining in the opening frame.
The Rangers added another goal with just nine seconds remaining as Jacob McGonegal scored from Servage and Kyle Dillabough. The Rangers took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Rangers made it 4-1 when Jordan Dodge scored from Forestell while shorthanded at 7:08 of the second period. The Rangers made it 5-1 at 10:23 as Rhys Gibbons (affiliated player) scored from Dillon and Joe McLean and 6-1 as Gibbons scored his second of the night from Dillon and Dodge just nine seconds later. The Rangers took a six-goal lead when Jordan Poulan scored an unassisted goal at 11:43. The Rangers took a 7-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Rangers made it 8-1 as Dodge scored from Tim McMullen (affiliated player) and Jared Fenlong at 5:17 of the second period on the power play. The Rangers took an eight-goal lead when Cole Edgley scored from Dylan Sharpley and Poulan at 6:39 on the power play. The Rangers added their third power play goal in a row as McGonegal scored his second of the game from goalie, Xavier Dusablon and Forestell at 10:21.
The Rangers kept coming, scoring another goal at 11:21 as Dodge scored his second of the game from Forestell and made it 12-1 when Edgley scored his second of the game from Berry at 11:45. The Rangers closed out the scoring with 1:58 remaining in the third period as Dillabough scored from Forestell and Sharpley.
The Rangers took the game 13-1 handing the Lions their eighth loss of the season. Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Dusablon and suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Riley Phillips.
