CASSELMAN—The Casselman Vikings played just one game this past weekend as they welcomed the defending CCHL2 champions, the Ottawa Jr. Canadians on Tuesday night.

The Casselman Vikings welcomed the Ottawa Jr. Canadians to the J. R. Brisson Complex on Thurs., Oct. 10, in the CCHL2. The Vikings went into the game in sole possession of second place in the Martin Division two points behind the Canadians who we’re holding down first place. 

The teams battled to a scoreless first period but the Vikings doubled the shot count 12-6 over the Canadians. 

The Vikings opened the scoring when Justin Gregoire scored his first goal of the season, and as a Viking, at 5:35 of the second period from Frederick Gagnier and Zachary Power taking a 1-0 lead. 

The Canadians tied the game at 8:18 and took their first lead of the game at 9:26. The Canadians took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. 

The Vikings pressed to tie the game and with just over a minute remaining, they pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but it was the Canadians who found the empty net with just seven seconds remaining and took the game 3-1. 

With the loss, the Vikings fell to three points behind the Canadians but also slipped into third as the Ottawa West Golden Knights won their next two games to surpass the Vikings by a pair of points. The Vikings outshot the Canadians 30-24. Suffering the loss in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell making 21 saves.

R. Brisson Complex on Sun., Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
