WINCHESTER—The Winchester Major Sox welcomed the Mississippi Whitecaps to the 100 Club Ball Park in Winchester on Wed., Aug. 28, for the Ontario District 2 Little League B championship game. The Sox got off to a bit of a rough start to the season losing their first four games but finished their last seven games with five wins, one tie and one loss.
The Sox played against teams from East Nepean, Orleans, Ottawa West, South Ottawa, Prescott-Russell, Kanata, Mississippi and Carleton-Russell during the regular season. The Sox finished the season in fifth place out of the ten teams earning home field advantage for the playoffs. The Sox faced the Prescott-Russell Aces in the semifinal and blew them out 20-2 earning a trip to the B championship against the Mississippi Whitecaps.
The Sox had a tougher opponent in the final but that didn’t deter them. The Sox used five pitchers in the game who all had good games and their offence was good as well scoring eight runs. Their defence was also spot on allowing just five runs against taking the game 8-5 and the 2019 championship.
