AVONMORE – On Tues., Aug. 27, North Stormont (NS) Deputy Fire Chief Derek Hoar presented Capt. Todd Bayley of Fire Station 3 in Avonmore with an animal resuscitation unit. During the presentation, NS Fire Chief Dan Gauvin stressed the close relationship between humans and their pets. Gauvin stated that another unit will be provided to NS Fire Station 2 in Crysler, with the stations in Finch and Moose Creek to receive them shortly.
Gauvin continued that it is his understanding that the Cornwall Fire Department and North Dundas Fire Department, which has one of these units located in the fire station in Chesterville, are the only other municipalities in SDG which have these units in use. Gauvin added that firefighters will undergo training on the use of the animal resuscitation unit. He explained that the units are attached to an oxygen mask before putting the mask over the animal’s nose and mouth. These units will be located in the rescue trucks and will provide first responders with the opportunity to assist animals in emergency situations.
