EMBRUN—The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers had a busy week, playing five games including a pair of games against the Orleans Red Sox on Monday at home, and Wednesday in Orleans; they welcomed the Glebe Giants on Thursday night and travelled to Embrun on Sunday for a double header against the Carleton-Russell Aces.

Aces 10 Pioneers 6

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers travelled to the Patenaude Ball Park in Embrun to take on the Carleton-Russell Aces for game two of a double header on Sun., Aug. 11, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. After dropping the first game of the double header, the Pioneers fell to four points back of the first place Aces and it was their final game of the regular season. 

The Pioneers got off to a great start scoring the maximum five runs in the top of the first inning. The Aces answered with just a single in the bottom of the inning, so the Pioneers took a 5-1 lead into the second inning. 

The Pioneers got two runners in scoring position in the top of the second but were unable to cash them. The pesky Aces scored two runs in the bottom of the inning but trailed 5-3 heading into the third inning. 

The Pioneers only got four batters to the plate in the top of the third and left a runner on second base. The Aces tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. The Pioneers retook the lead, scoring a single in the top of the fourth inning and their defence held the Aces off the score sheet in the bottom of the fourth. 

The Pioneers threatened to score in the top of the fifth inning with a runner on third but were unable to score. The Aces scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, surpassing the Pioneers and taking the game 10-6. 

Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Nolan Henry, Colin VanHoof, Kayne McCadden, Ben Lapier, Maclean Machan and Spencer Barclay. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to four points behind the top place Aces and were overtaken by the Brockville Braves who slipped into the number two seed. Pitching for the Pioneers were Lapier with 95 pitches and Emytt Fetterly with 53.

Aces 14 Pioneers 7

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers travelled to the Patenaude Ball Park in Embrun to take on the Carleton-Russell Aces for game one of a double header on Sun., Aug. 11, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers went into the game in second place just one point behind the Aces who were undefeated on the season. 

The Aces opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers answered with a pair in the bottom of the first but trailed 4-2 heading into the second inning. The Aces got two runners in scoring position in the top of the second inning but the Pioneers’ defence held. 

The Pioneers could not answer, going three up and three down in the bottom of the second. The Aces added to their lead in the top of the third inning with a single but the Pioneers answered with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning. The teams were tied 5-5 heading into the fourth inning. 

Both teams scored singles in the fourth inning, carrying a 6-6 tie into the fifth.

 The Aces blew the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning scoring four runs and leaving the bases loaded. The Pioneers went three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Aces added another three runs in the top of the sixth inning and their defence held the Pioneers to just three batters in the bottom of the inning taking a 13-6 lead into the seventh inning. Both teams added singles in the seventh inning but the Aces took the game 14-7. 

With the loss, the Pioneers fell to four points behind the leading Aces. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Colin VanHoof with two, Nolan Henry, Kayne McCadden, Emmett Fetterly, Kolby Latulippe and Raiden Foote each scoring singles.

Pitching for the Pioneers were VanHoof with 94 pitches, Kayne McCadden with 34 and Spencer Barclay with 50.

Pioneers 7 Giants 3

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers welcomed the Glebe Giants to the Morrisburg Ball Park on Thurs., Aug. 8, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers were coming off a pair of wins over the Orleans Red Sox and sat in second place atop the standings and looked to move closer to the first place Carleton-Russell Aces. 

The Pioneers allowed just three Giant batters to the plate in the top of the first inning striking out two. The Pioneers scored their first three batters and the next three were struck out, thrown out and flied out in the bottom of the inning. 

The Giants only got one runner on the bags in the top of the second inning but the Pioneers defence shut them down only getting three to the plate. The Pioneers loaded up the bases again in the bottom of the second inning but were unable to score. 

The Pioneers carried the 3-0 lead into the third inning. The Giants were threatening to score in the top of the third inning after loading up the bases but again, the Pioneers’ defence came up big. The Pioneers got their first batter to third base but their third batter hit into a double play in the bottom the third ending the threat. 

The Giants finally got on the score sheet with a single in the top of the fourth inning to close the gap to two runs. The Pioneers answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 6-1 lead into the fifth inning. 

The Giants scored another single in the top of the fifth and the Pioneers had no answer in the bottom of the inning. The Giants went three up and three down in the top of the sixth inning and the Pioneers added to their lead, scoring a single in the bottom of the sixth taking a 7-2 lead into the seventh inning. 

The Giants scored one run in the top of the seventh inning but it was not near enough as the Pioneers took the game 7-3. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Ben Lapier and Colin VanHoof with two each, Nolan Henry, Kayne McCadden and Emytt Fetterly all scored singles. 

Pitching for the Pioneers were Lapier with 60 pitches, VanHoof with 40 and Fetterly with 14.

Pioneers 14 Red Sox 4

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers travelled to the Heritage Ball Park in Orleans to take on the Red Sox on Wed., Aug. 7, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers broke the two-way tie with the Red Sox for fourth place after defeating them two nights previous 11-2 and moved up into sole possession of second place. 

The Pioneers scored a single run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Red Sox got five batters to the dish but the Pioneers’ defence was able to hold them off. 

The Pioneers bats came to life in the top of the second inning, scoring the maximum five runs. The Red Sox got one run back in the bottom of the second but trailed 6-1 heading into the third inning. 

The Pioneers added another three runs in the bottom of the fourth after getting seven batters to the plate. The Red Sox got five batters to the plate in the bottom of the third but were only able to score one of them leaving the bases loaded.

The Pioneers continued their offensive assault scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning taking a 14-2 lead. Three of the Red Sox next five batters were struck out in the bottom of the fourth. 

The Pioneers only got four to the dish in the top of the fifth inning but three of them were struck out. The Red Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth but it wasn’t enough as the Pioneers took the game 14-4. 

Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Nolan Henry with three, Colin VanHoof, Kayne McCadden and Lucas Menard with two each and Emytt Fetterly, Brendan Shaver, Ethan Cummins, Kolby Latulippe and Maclean Machan all scored singles. 

Pitching for the Pioneers were Lapier with 30 pitches, VanHoof with 30, McCadden with 30 and Fetterly with 17.

Pioneers 11 Red Sox 2

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers welcomed the Orleans Red Sox to the Morrisburg Ball Park on Mon., Aug. 2, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers went into the game in a two-way tie with the Glebe Giants with a record of 3-1-3 in fourth place, and looked to jump up into sole possession of second place. 

The Red Sox went three up and three down in the top of the first inning and the Pioneers made them pay, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning and leaving two runners in scoring position. 

The Red Sox loaded up the bases in the top of the second but the Pioneers’ pitcher, Ben Lapier struck out the next three batters. The Pioneers bats remained hot loading up the bases in the bottom of the inning but were only able to get one run in. 

The Pioneers took a 4-0 lead into the third inning. The Red Sox finally got on the board with a single run in the top of the third but the Pioneers had an answer for that as well, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning taking a 6-1 lead into the fourth inning. 

The Red Sox only got four to the dish in the top of the fourth inning and the Pioneers’ defence didn’t allow any to score. The Pioneers scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth taking a 9-1 lead into the fifth inning. 

The Red Sox scored a single in the top of the fifth inning but left the bases loaded. The Pioneers added a couple more runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking an 11-2 lead. 

The Red Sox only got one runner on the bags in the top of the sixth inning and that was as close as they got as the Pioneers took the game 11-2. 

With the win, the Pioneers moved into sole possession of second place. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Colin VanHoof and Olivia Mudde with two each and Nolan Henry, Brendan Shaver, Ben Lapier, Kayne McCadden, Mclean Machan, Emytt Fetterly and Lucas Menard all scored singles. Pitching for the Pioneers were Lapier with 45 pitches, VanHoof with 45 and Fetterly with 23.
