MORRISBURG—The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers played a pair of games this past week against the Ottawa West Twins Monday night in Nepean and on Thursday night in Morrisburg.

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers welcomed the Ottawa West Twins to the Morrisburg Ball Park on Thurs., July 25, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The two teams battled to a seven-all draw in the previous game on Monday night and were tied for fourth place in the standings.
The Twins got two runners on the bags in the top of the first inning but were unable to cash them as the Pioneers’ defence completed a double play. The Pioneers got on the score sheet first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first but left a runner in scoring position.
The Twins went three up and three down in the top of the second but the Pioneers couldn’t take advantage getting only four to the dish in the bottom of the second; but they still carried a 3-0 lead into the third inning.
The Twins only got four batters to the dish again in the top of the third and left a runner on second base. The Pioneers went three up and three down in the bottom of the third.
After the first batter was struck out, the Twins managed to get a runner in scoring position but the Pioneers would not allow them to score in the top of the fourth inning. The Pioneers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning taking a 5-0 lead into the fifth inning.
The Twins couldn’t get the bats working in this game getting five batters to the plate and leaving a runner on second base. The Pioneers added a single in the bottom of the fifth inning taking a 6-0 lead into the sixth inning.
The Twins finally got on the score sheet with a single in the top of the sixth but the Pioneers’ offence came to life again in the bottom of the inning scoring a triad of runs taking the game 9-1.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to a 2-1-2 record and take sole possession of fourth place. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Spencer Barclay with three, Nolan Henry and Kayne McCadden with a pair each and Colin VanHoof and Brendan Shaver scored singles. Pitching for the Pioneers were Ben Lapier with 95 pitches and Emytt Fetterly with 24.

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers travelled to the Nepean Sportsplex on Mon., July 22, to take on the Ottawa West Twins in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers went into the game with a record of 1-1-1 and sat in fifth place in the standings while the Twins sat in fourth.
The Twins only managed to get four batters to plate in the top of the first inning as the Pioneers’ defence shut them down. The Pioneers went three up and three down in the bottom of the first, taking a scoreless draw into the second inning.
The Pioneers got runners in scoring position but were unable to cash them in the top of the second. The Twins went three up and three down in the bottom of the second as the teams carried the 0-0 tie into the third inning.
The Pioneers were the first to get on the score sheet with a single in the top of the third inning but they left a runner on second base. The Pioneers struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning taking a 1-0 lead into the fourth.
The Pioneers added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth but their defence let them down in the bottom of the inning as the Twins scored the maximum five runs. The Pioneers trailed 5-3 heading into the fifth inning.
The Pioneers added a pair to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning but the Twins retook the lead with a single in the bottom of the fifth.
The Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead but the Twins scored a single in the bottom of the inning tying the game at seven.
The Pioneers got runners on second and third but were unable to bring them home in the top of the seventh inning. The Pioneers’ defence allowed a Twins’ runner to second base but that was it in the bottom of the seventh as the teams settled for a seven-all draw.
Neither team was able to make a move in the standings with the tie. The teams headed back to Morrisburg for the second half of a back-to-back series.
Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Colin VanHoof and Raiden Foote with a pair, Spencer Barclay, Ben Lapier and Maclean Machan.
