In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 28, Green welcomed Red. Red’s forward, Steph Dafoe (11) just missed a great scoring chance on Green’s goalie Roxanne Crump. Green’s Jody Crump came back to help her tender out, clearing the ball out of harm’s way. CHESTERVILLE—Week 11 of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League kicked off with Green hosting Red in the opening game on Thursday night and in the second match of the evening Blue welcomed Yellow.
Red 3 Green 0
In the opening game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 13, at the Chesterville Arena, Green hosted Red. Red went into the game sitting in second place just one point behind first place Blue while Green sat in fourth place, three points behind Yellow.
Red opened the scoring when Laura Melenhorst scored an unassisted goal at 3:05 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. Red took a two-goal lead when Jessica Rutley swatted one home from Theresa Schoones at 17:33. Red took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
Red kept the pressure on and took a three-goal lead when Rutley scored her second of the game from Steph Dafoe just 1:53 into the second. Red took the 3-0 lead into the third period.
Green’s defence was good in the third period not allowing a goal but their offence was unable to score as Red hung on for a 3-0 victory.
With the win, Red moved temporarily into first place. Picking up the win in Red’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin and suffering the loss in Green’s goal was Roxanne Crump.
Blue 4 Yellow 2
In the second game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Blue welcomed Yellow. Blue went into the game in second place after Red shutout Green in the earlier game while Yellow sat in third place eight points behind the Blue squad.
Blue opened up the scoring when Rebecca Kennedy blasted one home in close at 4:13 of the first period from Kara Bartholomew and Lindsay Cummins to take a 1-0 lead. Blue took a two-goal lead when Lindsay Cummins roofed one from Bartholomew and Kelly Francis at 10:15. Blue took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
Yellow cut the deficit in half when Cinnamon Boulanger pounded one to the back of the net from Amber Saddlemire and Sam Benoit at 6:42. Neither team was able to score before time wound down in the middle frame as Blue took a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Yellow knotted the affair when Alex Roach snapped one home from Benoit and Allanah McRae with 2:58 showing on the clock. Blue marched down the floor and retook the lead 57 seconds later as Cummins scored her second of the night from Bartholomew and Leigh Ann Dearing.
Blue added an insurance marker with just 47 seconds remaining as Kennedy scored her second of the night from Bartholomew and Francis. Blue took the game 4-2 moving back into first place.
Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin (spare) and suffering the loss in Yellow’s goal was Terri Smith.
