RUSSELL— The Russell High School T-Wolves hosted the Grade 7-8 track and field meet on Thurs., May 27, team members had their chance to compete and they shone brightly despite the clouds and rain.
The Grade 7 girls were the top team overall in their category with a score of 61 points. Leading the way for the Grade 7 girls was Lauren Maxwell. She finished first in the 100 m, long jump and vertical jump. Her 22” vertical jump set a new school record. Egan Wolfgram ran a great quarter mile to finish first in the 400 m.
The Grade 7 boys were also the top team in their category with a score of 121 points. Leading the way for the Grade 7 boys was Aiden Wade who won the 100 m, 200 m and 400 m. Jack Hill placed first in the 800 m and 1500 m to give the boys a clean sweep of the individual running events.
Piper Bond had the top performance by a Grade 8 girl, finishing first in the Grade 8 girls’ triple jump. She jumped 7.75 metres to set a new school record. Aiden Koopman had the top performance by a Grade 8 boy, placing first in the 800 m. Other top performers were Amy Atkinson with 2nd in the Grade 7 girls’ long jump, Paige Buma with a 2nd in the Grade 8 girls’ 800 m and 1500 m, Phoenix Baxter with a 2nd in Grade 7 boys’ 200 m and 400 m and Evan Jaquemet with a 3rd in Grade 7 boys’ 400 m and 1500 m.
Athletes who finished in the top 10 in their events, qualified to compete at the UC Cup Championship in Brockville on June 12.
