WESTPORT—The Winchester Hawks closed out their season with a pair of games this past weekend as they welcomed the Alexandria Glens on Friday night and travelled to Westport on Saturday night to take on the Rideaus.
Rideaus 6 Hawks 1
The Winchester Hawks travelled to the Westport Arena on Sat., Feb. 23 to take on the Rideaus in their last game of the regular season in the CCHL2. The Hawks blew a two-goal lead a pair of times in their last game; they fell short against the Alexandria Glens 6-5 and looked to close the season on a winning note.
The Rideaus scored the lone goal in the first period at 7:34 and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Rideaus dominated the second period scoring the only two goals at 8:34 and with 1:52 remaining and took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
The Rideaus didn’t let up and scored another pair of goals at 2:25 and at the three-minute mark making it 5-0. The Hawks finally got on the score sheet as Kyle Kuehni scored his 20th of the season from River Gull and Isaac Landry at 7:39. The Rideaus closed out the scoring with just 36 seconds remaining and took the game 6-1 handing the Hawks their 24th loss of the season. The Rideaus outshot the Hawks 57-29. Suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Brent Pledge Dickson making 51 saves.
The Hawks finished the season with 15 wins, 24 losses, three overtime losses and two shootout losses for 35 points.
Glens 6 Hawks 5
The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Alexandria Glens to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Feb. 22, in the CCHL2. There was nothing on the line in this game other than bragging rights and pride. The Glens opened the scoring at 15:10 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks tied the game when Isaac Landry scored his second of the season from Dawson Maisonneuve and Dillon Clemen at 15:32 and took a one-draw into the first intermission.
The Hawks took their first lead of the game when Alex Torres-Gill scored his third of the season from Hunter Randell at 4:28 of the second period. The Hawks took a two-goal lead when Danny Johnson scored his 20th of the season from Miguel Pare and Colby Byrnes-Shaw at 5:24. The Glens cut the Hawks’ lead to one at 6:06 on the power play but the Hawks retook a two-goal lead at 15:06 as Landry scored his second of the game from Clemen and Kyle Kuehni on the power play. The Hawks took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Glens got back to within one at 2:58 of the third period but again, the Hawks retook a two-goal lead when Declan Campbell-Hill scored his first goal as a Hawk from Isaac Kelly and Maisonneuve at 4:54. The Glens took command of the game after that point, scoring three unanswered goals at 9:35, 10:05 and at 13:45 on the power play and hung on to take the game 6-5 handing the Hawks their 23rd loss of the season.
The Hawks outshot the Glens 39-36. Suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Brent Pledge-Dickson making 30 saves.
