WILLIAMSTOWN—The Embrun Panthers played two road games this past weekend as they travelled to Winchester on Friday night to take on the Hawks and then to Williamstown on Saturday night to take on the Char-Lan Rebels.
Panthers 4 Rebels 3 (OT)
The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Sat., Jan. 26, to take on the Char-Lan Rebels in the CCHL2. The Panthers were coming off a 6-5 overtime loss to the Winchester Hawks the previous night tying them in the Martin Division standings and sat just six points behind the Rebels.
The Panthers opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the opening frame as Robert Beaudoin scored his sixth goal of the season from Riley Carisse taking a 1-0 lead. The Panthers took a two-goal lead when Benjamin Hamilton scored his sixth of the season from Philippe Plante and Carisse at 6:35.
The Rebels scored a pair of consecutive goals at 10:56 and 11:53 tying the game at two. The teams took the two-all draw into the first intermission.
The Rebels scored the lone goal of the second period at 12:22 on the power play and took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Panthers knotted the affair at 9:02 of the third period as Carisse scored his first of the season from Alex Rossides. The Panthers outshot the Rebels 10-7 in the third period but they had to settle for a three-all draw at the end of regulation.
The game then headed to a five-minute three on three overtime period. In the extra frame, Carisse scored his second of the game and season with just 36 seconds remaining in the extra frame, unassisted, to give the Panthers a 4-3 victory.
With the win, the Panthers tied the Hawks at 30 points in the standings and sat just four back of the Rebels. The Rebels outshot the Panthers 34-29. Picking up the win in the Panthers’ goal was Cody MacEachern making 31 saves.
Hawks 6 Panthers 5 (OT)
The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Joel Steele Community Centre in Winchester on Fri., Jan. 25, to take on the Hawks in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in seventh place in the Martin Division just one point behind the Panthers in sixth and eight points out of the last playoff spot.
The Hawks opened the scoring when Danny Johnson scored his 16th goal of the season from Hunter Randell just 1:42 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Panthers knotted the game when Marc Brosseau scored his 11th of the season from Nathan Brown and Alexandre Caron at 6:18. The teams took the one-all draw into the first intermission.
The Panthers took their first lead of the game when Cayden Martin scored his sixth of the season from Matthieu Brennan just 15 seconds into the second frame.
The Hawks got back to even when Miguel Pare scored his 13th of the season from Kyle Fleming and Alex Torres-Gill at 7:01 but the Panthers retook the lead at the 14-minute mark as Brosseau scored his second of the game and 12th of the season from Caron and Alex Rossides.
The Panthers took a two-goal lead when Robert Beaudoin scored his fifth of the season, while shorthanded and with just 20 seconds remaining in the middle frame. The Panthers took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Hawks got back to within one as Brady Meldrum scored his first of the season just 1:35 into the third period also while shorthanded. The Hawks tied the game when Eric DeRepentigny scored his sixth of the season from Fleming at 5:19.
The Panthers regained the lead when Caron scored his sixth of the season from Brown and Rossides on the power play at 15:39. The Hawks tied the game when Colby Byrnes-Shaw scored his fifth of the season from Kyle Kuehni and Johnson with just 52 seconds remaining in regulation.
Neither team was able to score before the final buzzer sounded, so the game headed to a five-minute three on three overtime period. The Hawks ended the game at 2:08 of the extra frame as Johnson scored his second of the game and 17th of the season from Colby Schroeder and River Gull.
The Hawks took the game 6-5 but allowed the Panthers a single point which made the two teams tied at 28 points in the standings. The Panthers outshot the Hawks 41-32.
Picking up the win in the Hawks’ goal was Brent Pledge-Dickson making 36 saves and suffering the loss in the Panthers goal was Joshua Ivanski making 26 saves.
