Russell council gets sworn in

EMBRUN – With little change to the Russell Township council this past municipal election, Mayor Pierre Leroux and councillors Cindy Saucier, André Brisson and Jaime Laurin were sworn back into their positions Mon., Dec. 3 with Mike Tarnowski joining their team.

The mayor and council members were each sworn in, reciting the pledge and then taking their designated seat on the council.

“I congratulate every member of council up here on their election,” said Laurin. “I look forward to working with you for the next four years. I want to thank the residents of this wonderful community for putting their trust in me again. It’s an honour and a privilege to sit up here and represent you and I will do so to the best of my abilities.”

Cindy Saucier continued, “I would also like to thank all of my constituents and everyone who voted for me and had the confidence to put me in for another four years. Like I said, it was a steep learning curve the first four years but I will continue to work hard and work with the staff.

Tarnowski, who is the only new member voted on the council this term, said that he was very honoured to be chosen for this position and will take this responsibility very seriously.

“This is truly an honour and something I will take very seriously in the next four years to represent the people and this great township. What I promised through my process of getting up here is accountability and a service attitude from all of us here,” he said. “Big congratulations to the council coming back, it says a lot and I am humbled to be seated next to them and I look forward to working with you. I look forward to working with professionals sitting at the front and on the team as well.”

Mayor Leroux wrapped up the inauguration stating that “On Oct. 22, our community made a decision to move forward together, along the same path we have been travelling the past four years. We have achieved so many successes and we have proven, that together, we can do better. However, we still have many obstacles to overcome and this council will have to make difficult choices on how we hold our future,” he said. “To our newly sworn in council, we are a diverse group, with different views and ideas, but we have one thing in common; our desire to help make this wonderful community a better place to live, not only for ourselves but also for future generations.”

Leroux ended the service stating, “Together, working hand-in-hand, residents, staff and council, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.”
