CHESTERVILLE—The North Dundas Rockets played two games this past weekend as they travelled to Metcalfe on Friday night to take on the Jets and welcomed the South Grenville Rangers on Saturday night.

Rockets 6 Rangers 5
The North Dundas Rockets welcomed the South Greville Rangers to the Chesterville Arena on Sat., Oct. 27, in the NCJHL. The Rockets were coming off a big 6-2 victory over the Metcalfe Jets the previous night moving to within four points of the Rangers who were holding down the top spot in the West Division.

The Rockets were looking for their fifth consecutive win and had a chance to come within two points of the Rangers. The Rockets opened the scoring when Justin Lefebvre slapped home a rebound just 54 seconds into the first period from Brad Stitt and Brad Nash to take a 1-0 lead.

The Rockets made it 2-0 as Cameron Brown snapped one home from the point at 2:42 from Connor Roth and Lefebvre. The Rockets took a three-goal lead when Lefebvre scored his second of the game from Nash and Stitt on the power play at 14:47.

The Rockets took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. The Rangers got back in the game as Jordan Dodge scored from Cole Edgely and Brody Ranger just 21 seconds into the second period. The Rockets made it 4-1 when Sebastien Roy fired home a power play goal at 5:05 from Phil Brunet and Nash.

The Rangers got to within two as Edgely scored from Ranger at 8:03 but the Rockets got that one right back just 46 seconds later as Stitt slammed one home off a rebound from Lefebvre and Brown to make it 5-2. The Rangers wouldn’t go away and got back to within two at 9:20 as Dodge scored his second of the game from Edgely and Mathieu Giroux.

The Rockets made it 6-3 when Lefebvre completed his hat trick as he slid home a puck that just squeaked though the goalie’s gear with just 13 seconds remaining in the middle frame from Stitt and Nash. The Rockets took the 6-3 lead into the second intermission.

The Rangers got back to within two when Dodge completed his hat trick from Edgely and Giroux at 3:20 of the third period. The Rangers got to within one as Jacob Bouche scored from Dodge and Tristan Loomis on the power play at 7:52 to setup an exciting finish.

With just under two minutes remaining the Rangers pulled their goalie in favour of the extra attacker and had a few close calls but the Rockets were able to hang on for the 6-5 victory. Picking up the win in the Rockets’ goal was Caleb Gervais making 31 saves on 36 shots and suffering the loss in the Rangers’ goal was Lee Spurgeon making 36 saves on 42 shots.

The North Dundas Rockets travelled to the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe on Fri., Oct. 26, to take on the Jets in the NCJHL. The Rockets were looking for their fourth consecutive win after beating the West Carleton Inferno 3-1 in their previous game. The Rockets went into the game in second place, six points behind the first place South Grenville Rangers.

The Rockets opened the scoring at 5:10 of the first period as former Jet, Sebastien Roy sniped one from another former Jet, Phil Brunet and Brodie Barkley. The Rockets made it 2-0 when Justin Lefebvre lit the lamp from Brad Nash and Connor Roth on the power play at 6:34.

The Rockets made it 3-1 when Nash batted one home from Lefebvre and Roth on another power play at 15:28. The Rockets added their third power play goal of the game when Thomas Leggett blasted one home from Roth and Lefebvre at 15:55.

The Jets got on the board when Mark Morrison scored from Alex Cloutier with 1:47 remaining in the opening frame. The Rockets took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. Roy scored his second goal of the game at 14:08 of the second period while shorthanded from Brunet to take a 5-1 lead.

The Rockets took that 5-1 lead into the second intermission. The Rockets made it 6-1 when Barkley scored from long range at 3:13 from Nash and Brad Stitt on the power play. The Jets got one back at 10:06 when Mike Armstrong scored from Morrison and Jarrett Ladouceur to make it 6-2 but that was as close as they could get as the Rockets took the game 6-2.

With the win, the Rockets moved to within four points of the first place Rangers. Picking up the win in the Rockets’ goal was Reilly Tondreau and suffering the loss in the Jets’ goal was Danik Turcotte.
