Hawks carry on despite heavy hearts
The Winchester Hawks were fighting through with heavy hearts after the passing of the president, Keith Ashton who lost his battle with cancer. The Hawks held a tribute to Ashton prior to the game. WINCHESTER—The Winchester Hawks had just a single game this past weekend as they welcomed the Arnprior Packers on Friday night. The Hawks went into the game with heavy hearts after the passing of their president, Keith Ashton. Ashton passed away on Oct. 21, surrounded by his family members after a battle with cancer. The Hawks hosted a remembrance of Ashton prior to the game and members of his family dropped the ceremonial puck.

The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Arnprior Packers to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Oct. 26, in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in seventh place with just two wins, seven losses and one loss in a shootout for five points.
The Packers opened the scoring at 5:24 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Packers outshot the Hawks 17-12 but only took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Packers made it 2-0 just 1:09 into the second period but the Hawks cut the deficit in half when Evan Landry scored his third goal of the season at 3:48 from Kieran Gaynor and Miguel Pare.
The Packers took a 3-1 lead at 4:05 and 4-1 at 7:27 but the Hawks were able to get one back at 10:41 when Kyle Kuehni scored his sixth of the season unassisted to make it 4-2. The Hawks got to within one when Pare scored his second of the season from Dillon Clemen at 11:46.
The Packers took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission. The Packers restored their two-goal lead at 2:09 of the third period but the Hawks didn’t give up as Cam Cotnam scored his second of the season from Isaac Landry and William MacDonald at 3:24 to make it 5-4.
The Hawks knotted the affair when Pare scored his third of the season and second of the game at 10:32 from Alex Torres-Gill and Kuehni. Neither team was able to net the winner before the time had expired in regulation so the game headed to a five-minute, three on three overtime period.
Just as the game looked as it was headed to a shoot out, the Packers closed the scoring with just 39 seconds remaining in the extra frame taking the game 6-5. The Packers outshot the Hawks 57-38. Suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Darien Johnson making 51 saves on 57 shots.
