The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Carleton Place Canadians to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Oct. 19, in the CCHL2. The Hawks beat the Canadians in their first matchup and were looking to make two. The Hawks’ rookie forward, Eric DeRepentigny (10) scored his first CCHL2 goal but the Canadians took the game 5-2 handing the Hawks their eighth loss of the season.      Moore photo

WINCHESTER—The Winchester Hawks had but one game this past weekend as they welcomed the Carleton Place Canadians on Friday night. The Winchester Hawks acquired the rights to two ex-Casselman Vikings this week as they got forward, Shane Spencer and defenseman, Jonah Peters but they were not in the lineup.

The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Carleton Place Canadians to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Oct. 19, in the CCHL2. The Hawks were coming off a 4-1 loss to the Embrun Panthers in their previous game and sat tied with the Panthers for sixth place in the Martin Division standings.

The Hawks got the jump early as Eric DeRepentigy scored his first goal of the season from Hunter Randell and Ryan Neilson at 8:24 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Hawks made it 2-0 when Kyle Kuehni scored his fifth of the season from Miguel Pare and Gabriel Davis at 9:10.

The Canadians cut the deficit in half at 15:08 and caught the Hawks napping with just one second remaining in the opening frame to tie the game. The teams took a two-all draw into the first intermission.

The Canadians took their first lead of the game on the power play at 10:26 of the second period. The Canadians took a two-goal lead at 11:40 and went 4-2 into the second intermission.

The Hawks had no answer in the third period and with just 1:19 remaining in the game, the Canadians made it 5-2 and took the game by that score.

The Canadians outshot the Hawks 38-20 in the game. Suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Brent Pledge Dickson making 33 saves on 38 shots.
