The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Palais des Sports in Embrun on Fri., Oct. 19, to take on the Panthers in the CCHL2. The Vikings acquired forward, Joshua Paledeau (19) from the Rockland Nationals of the CCHL. Paledeau keeps his eye on the puck but is unable to score as the Panthers’ goalie Cody MacEachern was able to cover it. Paledeau, the Alfred native, scored a goal in his first game against the Alexandria Glens but was held off the score sheet against the Panthers. The Vikings took the game 5-3. Moore photo

EMBURN—The Casselman Vikings played two games this past weekend as they welcomed the Alexandria Glens on Thursday night and travelled to Embrun on Friday night to take on the Panthers.
Vikings 5 Panthers 3
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Palais des Sports on Fri., Oct. 19, to take on the Panthers in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Alexandria Glens the previous night as they made a late charge completing a comeback. The Panthers went into the game tied for sixth place with the Winchester Hawks in the Martin Division.
The Panthers opened the scoring when Jeremy Cyr scored his first goal of the season just 2:13 into the first period from Owen Nevins and Mathieu O’Toole taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings outshot the Panthers in the first period 16-9 but trailed 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead when Brandon Paquette scored his first of the season from Marc Brosseau at 4:58 of the second period. The Panthers kept up the pressure and made it 3-0 at 6:05 as Robert Beaudoin scored his first of the season unassisted.
The Vikings had no answer as the time wound down in the middle frame as the Glens took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission. The Vikings got to within two at 3:14 of the third period as Mikael Bissonnette scored an unassisted goal for his first of the season.
The Vikings got to within one as Shawn Patterson pounded his fourth of the season home from Joel Hunt and Brady Cloutier at 6:14.
The Vikings tied the game at 10:40 as Samuel Mattie scored his ninth of the season from Hunt and Cloutier. The Vikings completed the comeback when Frederick Gagnier scored his sixth of the season from Dylan Robinson and Tyler Ballantyne at 16:23 to make it 4-3.
The Panthers pulled their goalie with just over a minute remaining in favour of the extra attacker but that backfired on them as Gabriel Rousselle found the yawning cage at the other end of the rink with just 59 seconds remaining to make it 5-3. The Vikings hung on to take the game 5-3 moving to within four points of the division leaders, the Canadians.
The Vikings outshot the Panthers 47-33. Picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Mathieu Chenier making 30 saves on 33 shots and suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was Cody MacEachern making 42 saves on 46 shots.
Vikings 5 Glens 4
The Casselman Vikings welcomed the Alexandria Glens to the J. R. Brisson Complex on Thurs., Oct. 18, in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off a 3-0 shutout win over the Ottawa West Golden Knights in their previous game but still sat six points behind the first place Ottawa Jr. Canadians in the Martin Division.
The Vikings opened the scoring at 4:22 of the first period as Federick Gagnier scored his fifth goal of the season from Michael Bissonnette and Dylan Robinson to take a 1-0 lead. The Vikings made it 2-0 when Mathieu Talbot scored his third of the season from Joel Hunt and Brady Cloutier at 11:51.
The Glens get one back at 13:39 on the power play but the Vikings took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Glens tied the game at 3:13 of the second period and took their first lead of the game at 9:35.
The Vikings’ newest addition, Joshua Paledeau scored his first goal as a Viking at 16:06 from Gabriel Rousselle and Tyler Ballantyne to tie the game at three. The teams took a three-all draw into the second intermission.
The Glens made it 4-3 at 10:53 of the third period and looked to be headed towards a victory but the Vikings knotted the affair at 13:37 when Hunt scored his 11th of the season from Rousselle and Shawn Patterson.
With time winding down in the game, the Vikings retook the lead with just 2:50 remaining as Louis Chabot scored his third goal of the season from Rousselle and Hunt making it 5-4.
With just over a minute remaining in regulation, the Glens pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but the Vikings were able to hold the Glens to the outside and their goalie, Nick Campbell closed the door.
The Vikings took the game 5-4 and outshot the Glens 34-21. Picking up the victory in the Vikings’ goal was Campbell making 17 saves on 21 shots.
