KENMORE — The Winchester Bantam Girls Red Sox had one game this past week after two weeks off as they travelled to Kenmore on Wednesday night.
Red Sox 17 Kenmore 16: The Winchester Bantam Girls Red Sox travelled to Kenmore on Wed., June 27, in the Rural Ottawa Softball Association. The Sox went into the game in a first place tie with Gloucester with 16 points each with a record of 7-2.
The Red Sox drew first blood scoring two runs in the top the first but Kenmore came roaring back with four runs in the bottom of the inning taking a 4-2 lead into the second inning. The Red Sox retook the lead scoring four runs in the top of the second inning but the Kenmore team matched it with four runs of their own taking an 8-6 lead.
The Red Sox scored a single in the top of the third to get to within one but Kenmore answered with another four-run inning taking a 12-7 lead. The Red Sox got back to within one after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning only to have Kenmore score four more to take a 16-11 lead.
The Red Sox bats came to life at the right time as they scored six runs in their last at bat to take a 17-16 lead. Kenmore needed at least one run to tie or two for a win but the Red Sox’ defence held Kenmore to just three batters and none of them made it on base.
The Red Sox completed the comeback scoring a 17-16 victory to move into sole possession of first place. Scoring the runs for the Red Sox were Margot Guy with four, Reese Marriner with three, Alexis Sharpley, Amanda Shay, Alison Roach and Mia Ziegler all scored twice and Sara Sloan and Adrianna VanBruegel each scored singles.
