Tagwi Intermediate Boys’ Volleyball take Bronze

AVONMORE – The Carleton Place High School (CPHS) Bears won both the Upper Canada Cup Girls’ and Boys’ Intermediate Volleyball Championships on Wed., Jan. 24, at Tagwi Secondary School.
The Bears defeated North Dundas District High School girls 25-9 and 26-24 during the final, held at Tagwi Secondary School in Avonmore.
The Tagwi girls played Carelton Place in their first game but couldn’t pull ahead and lost the game in two sets, 25 to 19 and 25 to 10. They went on to play Glengarry and despite dropping the first set 25 to 21 they came back in a big way during the second set with 25 to 14. The girls kept the momentum going and took the last set 15 to 11, winning the game. They ranked second in their pool with five points.
The Tagwi girls went on to play NDDHS in the semi-finals but were bested in two sets. NDDHS took the game 25 to 15 and 29 to 27. In the bronze finals, Tagwi took on Rideau who ultimately went home with the bronze beating Tagwi 25 to 19 and 25 to 20.
The Tagwi Intermediate boys participated in the UC Cup Volleyball Championship on Thurs., Jan. 25. The boys started off the tournament facing off against Carelton Place. They fought hard but dropped both sets 25 to 20 and 25 to 16.
In their second game of the day, Tagwi faced BCI. The boys had a close game and their hard work paid off for a win of 25 to 21 and 25 to 23. They moved on to the semi-finals against Rideau but couldn’t pull through and Rideau moved onto the championship with 25 to 13 and 27 to 25.
In the bronze finals, Tagwi faced St. Lawrence. St. Lawrence got the best of them in the first set for 25 to 23 but Tagwi came back fighting in the second and third set, taking home bronze with 25 to 20 and 16 to 14.
