Casselman remembers

CASSELMAN, VARS – Remembrance Day services were held in Casselman and Vars on Sun., Nov. 5. Area services are staggered to allow Legionnaires and dignitaries to participate in all of them. The Russell Legion organizes Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Vars, Casselman, Russell, Embrun and Limoges. The latter three will take place on Nov. 11 as usual.
Dignitaries attending in Vars and/or in Casselman included GPR MP Francis Drouin, MPP Grant Crack, Ottawa Councillor Stephen Blais, Casselman Mayor Conrad Lamadeleine, priests and ministers, community leaders, veterans, representatives of the RCMP, OPP, Canadian Armed Forces, firefighters, and a veteran of the Second World War laid a wreath in Casselman.
Wreaths were also laid by Scouts and Guides, Mothers of Canada, community associations and networks, and one for Corporal Nathan Cirillo.
The Vars ceremony was moved into Ecole St-Guillaume this year, where some of Morley Verdier’s collection of First World War memorabilia was on display.
