Bronze medal winners
The South Dundas Peewee B Rep Demons travelled to Montreal this past weekend to for the CAN/AM Tournament. The Lions captured the bronze medal by defeating Clifton Park 6-2. MONTREAL – The South Dundas Peewee B Rep team won a bronze medal this weekend at the CAN/AM tournament in Montreal. The Lions had three teams in their division – Cornwall, Clifton Park and Bradford. It was a round robin format with the top two playing for gold and seeds three and four playing for bronze.
The Lions started slow in game one versus Cornwall, trailing 2-0 after the first period. The Lions carried the play in the second period with Liam Campbell hammering home a loose puck from the slot. The third period went back and forth. With time winding down, the Lions pulled goalie Aiden Hutt for an extra attacker in the final minute but were unable to get the puck into the back of the net despite several opportunities.
In game two against Clifton Park, the Lions dominated right from the puck drop. It was a total team victory with everyone contributing. Shots were 28-13 in the Lions’ favour.
Game three versus Bradford was a total no show until the Lions woke up in the second period, already trailing 4-0. The Lions made a game of it though despite the disastrous start but it was a disappointing 6-4 loss because a victory would have seen a gold medal game for them. Bradford would go on to defeat Cornwall in the gold medal game.
The Lions defeated Clifton Park in the bronze final – 6-2. “Spark plug” Cameron Lynch scored on the opening shift with help from line mates Wyatt Barkley and Campbell. The first period was evenly played and resulted in a 1-1 tie. The Lions took the game over in the second and third despite regular trips to the penalty box (nine). Jordan Heuff scored a hat trick of short-handed goals to go along with an assist on John Hardie’s point shot. Maddox England had the other tally. Once again the Lions outshot them by a wide margin, 25-13.
Terrence Mudde was awarded our team’s “strongest link” award for his consistent play on defence for the entire tournament.
