RUSSELL – The brand new Tim Hortons location in Russell off Craig St. celebrated its grand opening on Sat., Sept. 23 at the store. Four Russell Council members and the franchisees, Shelley Seward-White and Howie White, cut the ribbon in front of numerous special guests, local attendees and even a live band.
The Whites own four other Tim’s franchise locations, and this is their first one in a rural area. “We’re thrilled to be in Russell. We always wanted a location in a small town,” said Seward-White during her opening speech. She described driving around looking for a suitable location and ended to enthusiastic applause with, “And it’s the most adorable town.”
The shop has been open for a week prior to the party and so far business has been steady, but Seward-White expects it will pick up now that they are officially open.
If numbers at the opening are any indication that is a reasonable expectation, as the place was jam-packed on Saturday. Right now there are about 10 employees. The shop is a full service operation, offering all the usual Tim’s menu items and a drive-through which is accessed from Broadway Ave. off Craig St. beside Foodland.
