MORRISBURG – Organizers of the Dundas County Hospice annual golf tournament couldn’t have hoped for better weather as the 11 foursomes teed-off at the Morrisburg Golf Club under bright, sunny skies on Sat., Sept. 14.
The tournament, a shotgun start, best ball style fundraiser has been taking place for “about” 10 years. Funds raised will go into general coffers for the Hospice.
Jen Pretty, the Program and Volunteer Coordinator says there is always a need, and the proceeds from the tournament makes a difference. “A lot will go for the grief and bereavement and our equipment program,” said Pretty. “We’re really trying to keep those programs going and this will help.”
“Our hospice is a visiting hospice,” adds Pretty. “We don’t have beds, so people don’t sleep there, but we have a lot of volunteers who go out in the community and help, not just people who are palliative, but also their caregivers.
“We do a lot of caregiver support,” she adds, “And then we also have a day program where people can come and, you know, we do a meal and have some activities and just get them out of the house.”
The Dundas County Hospice was established in 1992 and provides services at no charge to those in Dundas County with life-threatening illness. They are an accredited member of Hospice Palliative Care Ontario.
