CHESTERVILLE – ‘Tis the season of giving, and the North Dundas Rockets did just that both on and off the ice Saturday afternoon as they defeated the visiting South Stormont Mustangs 5-2.

The Mustangs got on the board first on a goal by Isaac Barr from Storm Adams at 1:15 in the first period. The Rockets, however answered with four goals, two in the first period (Jack Nevins from Fabian Walsh and Brett Gustavsen from Andrew Radjenovic and Michael Mcnamee) and two in the second period (Michael Mcnamee from Walsh and Radjenovic and Tanner Williams from Gustavsen and Mike Byrd).

The Mustangs added one more on the powerplay with four seconds remaining in the second period (Dillon Clemen from Adams and Duncan Campbell) while the Rockets wrapped up the scoring late in the third period on a goal by Dean Byvelds from Tanner Williams and Walsh.

The three stars of the game were all from the Rockets: Dean Byvelds, Deric Boudreau and Andrew Radjenovic. Matt Jenkins picked up the win in goal, stopping 21 of 23 shots.

In terms of giving off the ice, this was the second game that the Rockets collected canned food for the North Dundas Christmas Fund. All the proceeds from the $25,000 shoot-out draw will be donated to the fund as well.

The Rockets were on the receiving end of things prior to the game when they were presented with a custom-made fire helmet that is to be awarded to the player of the game. The helmet, created by members of the North Dundas Fire Services was presented by Sean Donovan, Terry Foley, Ryan Bissonnette and Terry Wagner.

The Rockets continue as the only undefeated team in the league with eleven wins and no losses. They have two games remaining before Christmas, Sat., Dec. 16 in Alexandria against the Glengarry Pipers (8 p.m. start), and a return match with the Mustangs on Sat., Dec. 23 in Chesterville (3:30 p.m. start).
