CHESTERVILLE – It was a special Chesterville and District Historical Society meeting on Tues., Aug. 29 as members of the Russell Historical Society visited the Heritage Centre. There was plenty of opportunity to visit, share stories and enjoy some delicious refreshments.
After welcoming the visitors from the RHS, CDHS president Caroline Roberts shared some of the accomplishments of the organization over the past couple of years, which included a renovation of both the Heritage Centre and the publication of an updated history of the community.
The RHS is planning a heritage festival on Sat., Sept. 16 at the Keith Boyd Museum, which will feature displays as well as the Bytown Fire Brigade that will bring the restored Silsby steam pumper to the event. The official book launch of Silsby Saves the Day, written by Tom VanDusen and illustrated by Rebecca Menard is planned for the Heritage Festival.

Carolyn Thompson Goddard, grew up in Chesterville and attended North Dundas District High School. After completing her BA in Political Science at Carleton University she has worked as a medical secretary and library technician. In 2020 she graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Journalism and has been a reporter and column writer for The Chesterville Record for over 10 years.
