MORRISBURG – Bill Ewing is seeking to be elected as mayor of South Dundas in the upcoming 2022 municipal elections.

Ewing mentioned the decision to run for SD mayor was made “when Mayor Byvelds announced he was not running and Deputy Mayor Gardner, after an unsuccessful run for provincial seat, originally stated she was also not running. With this in mind, having three plus terms behind me as a councillor, I figured it was the correct time for me to step up and lead South Dundas as the mayor.” He noted serving on the SD council has provided him with the experience of sitting on many SD boards and committees.

He has been a municipal employee in Iroquois for over 20 years, served 35 plus years in the fire service, 10 plus years as the chair of the Morrisburg BIA, experience serving on the RSL Utilities board of directors, and holds “a strong knowledge of the ins and outs of all municipal works.”

Some of the issues he views as needing to be prioritized include “roads, taxation, stronger voice on county council, landfill, composting and recreation. He suggests there is a need to “continue with the recreation master plan, review fire needs’ study, review ongoing road needs’ study,” and noted “don’t reinvent the wheel.”

If elected, he seeks to move the municipality forward, with the goal of “bringing growth to our area, while keeping taxation down.”
