MOOSE CREEK – There was a good turn out at the 2025 Celebration of Stormont Agriculture which was held on Fri., March 28 in the Moose Creek Community Center. Members of the agricultural organizations in Stormont County organized the event, with Stormont Soil and Crop Improvement Association presenting awards for the 2024 Award of Merit and the 2024 Stormont County Farmer of the Year.
Molly McDonald, a dedicated worker in Stormont County agriculture, was the 2024 Award of Merit winner, with Armin and Monica Kagi from Redlodge Holsteins in Finch being named as the 2024 Stormont County Farmer of the Year.
“We were both speechless as we didn’t expect this at all!” commented Monica, before continuing how “We are very honoured to be considered for this award and chosen as this year’s winners!” Cattle from their farm have participated in many exhibitions, receiving several rewards and this year were a winner of the Holstein Ontario Heart of the Herd Award as well as Gold Star Milk Quality Certificates from the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. They have farmed in Stormont County since the 1990’s, were the hosts of the very successful 2015 International Plowing March and Rural Expo, hosted a Stormont Twilight Family Night and are strong supporters of several agricultural organizations.
