BERWICK – North Stormont municipal council held their first council meeting in their new council chambers on Tues., March 11. The municipal offices were recently moved from their former location at 15 Rue Union Street to their new location at 57A Cockburn Street, the site of the former North Stormont Public School.
“I would like to extend a warm welcome to our members of council, all staff present, and the residents who have joined us tonight for this special occasion. This evening marks our first official council meeting in our beautiful new administration building.” said NS Mayor François Landry in his welcoming address as the council meeting began. He continued how this building will serve the community in the years to come before acknowledging and thanking Happy Face Daycare who have the capacity to provide day care in a section of the renovated building “for nearly fifty children, making a meaningful impact on our local families.”
Deputy Mayor Steve Densham mentioned in a short address how the school was a community hub and the building will continue this role in the community. He offered congratulations to the staff who worked so hard to ensure the smooth transition of municipal services to the new location.
An official grand opening of the new site is currently in the planning stage, with more information expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
