WINCHESTER – Whether you are a contractor or a home-owner planning a build, North Dundas Building Supplies (NDBS) has a good selection of products for its clients. NDBS is located between Chesterville and Winchester at 12642 County Road 43 and has been part of the community since its opening in 2018.
“We really enjoying speaking with the clients and love to hear about their projects” said Stacy Duguay who with husband David Nyentap purchased the pre-existing storefront in 2018. The business provides clients with the opportunity to purchase a wide selection of products. These include building supplies such as lumber, paint, windows, doors as well as the tools and materials needed for a variety of projects. The business also provides key cutting services for house, car, and mailbox keys.
Duguay mentioned the business is independently owned and operated but is part of the Castle Building Centres Group, described on the CBCG as the “oldest Canadian-based, cooperatively-owned buying group of lumber and building materials. As a result, NDBS has access to a wider range of products and competitive pricing opportunities, with Duguay explaining there is the bulk buying options for some of the materials. Some of the brands carried by the business include Dulux paints, Trex composite decking, Milwaukee tools, Vulcan products and Marvec PVC panels.
Their website, located at www.ndbs.ca provides the reader with a great deal of information on NDBS which includes products available, project costs estimates, available promotions, as well as a blog where information on subjects such as preparing your home for winter or suggestions on how to create shelters for your livestock is presented. It is possible to access informational videos from their vendors which can include instructions or suggestions for projects.
She mentioned the website is being updated on an ongoing basis and currently includes 50 products which can be ordered online, with more expected to be added in the future, or by contacting the business. Delivery options are available to clients in certain locations, with Duguay commenting the best option is to speak to staff directly about product delivery.
One of the challenges faced by NDBS was overcoming a public perception that the business could only be accessed by contractors. She mentioned it was important to overcome this perception and was achieved by providing information to people as to how they are a business which caters to everyone.
Running a business takes a great deal of determination and hard work. She suggests for people thinking about starting their own business to trust your intuition, be prepared to ask questions and be prepared to make mistakes. Duguay continued that developing relationships with clients and suppliers is an important consideration when starting a business and some things are learned through trial and error.
