MORRISBURG – The Canadian Club of Morrisburg began their 2024-2045 season on Wed., Sept. 18 at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 048.

Bill Stewart, a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, was the guest speaker and delighted those in attendance with his recollections of his career with the RCMP, spending 37 years on the famed Musical Ride and developed a close association with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Following a delicious roast beef dinner, Stewart described how he had grown up on a farm in Ramsayville near Ottawa, joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1976 and retiring in 2012 with the rank of Sgt Major, a senior non-commissioned officer. During his career he was able to meet with HM Queen Elizabeth II on several occasions when horses were gifted to her on many occasions by the RCMP.

A beautiful power point presentation accompanied Stewart’s presentation which showed many photos including those of horses presented to Her Majesty as well as from his several visits to England.
