SOUTH MOUNTAIN – The rain didn’t stop the community from gathering at the second 2024 Meet Me on Main Street in the municipality of North Dundas. While the location changed to the Mountain Township Agricultural Hall (MTAH) in South Mountain, there was a good turnout for the July 10 event.
“To be able to get everyone inside on a rainy evening is so wonderful for the community.” said North Dundas resident Janine Fawcett during the event, ND Deputy Mayor Thersa Bergeron commenting the event provides an opportunity for people to get together with their neighbours.
Bergeron extended a big thank you to the South Mountain Agricultural Society for donating the use of the MTAH on short notice for the event, with ND councillor Gary Annable mentioning how “We have always had good turnouts” at these events, noting while the weather doesn’t always cooperate, outdoor events require flexibility in planning.
Community organizations at the event included the North Dundas Cornhole League which offered people an opportunity to try their hand at cornhole, the South Mountain branch of the SDG Library distributing free books, and the ND Fire Service with an information table with swag items to choose from.
If you worked up an appetite while dancing to the music of The County Lads, people were able to enjoy a bite to eat from Simply Baked Catering Inc. and Sandy Mountain Restaurant and Golf Course, with refreshments available from King’s Lock, Rurban and Windmill Breweries.
There are still three more Meet Me On Main Street events to come, with people gathering in Hallville on July 17, Chesterville on July 24 and Winchester on July 31.
