AVONMORE – With the theme for Ladies Night 2024 being Disney, there were several tables sporting Disney themes including pirates, friendly villains, and Mouseketeers during the fundraiser held on Fri., May 10. The annual event provides an opportunity for people to reconnect with friends and neighbours while raising funds for a community organization.
The event was organized by the Avonmore Community and Athletic Association (ACAA) in support of Carefor North Stor Support Centre (CNSSC) in Finch, with Joseé Poirier, Chair of the ACAA Events Committee, explaining the event raised $8,300 for the CNSSC.
“Every donation helps us provide essential services to the community” explained Michele Morgan, the Supervisor, Community Support Services, at CNSSC. She continued how the centre provides several services to North Stormont residents aged 55 and over which include adult day programming, wellness, and foot care as well as meal deliveries. Upcoming events include a strawberry social and Father’s Day activities.
“We are a small community with a big heart.” said Poirier, continuing how she is inspired by the generosity from the community. She wished to thank everyone who helped to organize the event, those who made donations to the silent or live auction and to those who attended the event. “Your contribution will make a meaningful difference to the seniors who live in North Stormont. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.” she said, before thanking Kerri Mainville and Elizabeth Harps for their assistance with the auctions.
Upcoming events for the Avonmore community include a Canada Day Breakfast hosted by the Roxborough Agricultural Society followed by the annual Colours Run starting at 10:30 a.m. and fireworks in the evening.
