MOREWOOD – The North Dundas village of Morewood was host to the first Meet Me on Main Street this year. The event was held in the early evening of Wed., June 28 and due to rainy weather forecasted, it was held inside and outside of the Morewood Community Centre on Russell Street.

Taking place between 5 and 8 p.m., the successful event offered lots of activities for people of all ages to enjoy, a good selection of food to eat, refreshments to consume, music to listen to and a chance to visit with friends and neighbours.

Firefighters from North Dundas Station 4 and ND Fire Station 2 joined firefighters from ND Fire Station 1 in Morewood and provided information as well as useful swag to those who dropped by their table to say ‘hello’. The Chesterville & District Lions Club sponsored Jacky’s Face Painting, with the SDG County Library providing people of all ages with the opportunity to make a button, pick up some stickers, or tattoos at their booth. Kate Jones-Miner, the SDG Library district supervisor, mentioned that there are plans for an Express Depot to be in the Morewood community, with the location to be announced later. After enjoying some visiting and activities, people were able to choose between getting something to eat from the Country Kitchen Restaurant, Simply Baked Catering or Fat Les’s Pub & Poutinerie, and adults could enjoy refreshments from either Humble Beginnings Brewing Co., King’s Lock Craft Distillery or Tuque de Broue.

During the evening, the townships provided music to listen to while visiting or eating and if desired, to dance to. Shortly after 6 p.m., North Dundas Mayor and SDG warden Tony Fraser welcomed everyone for attending the first Meet Me on Main Street of the year. The mayor thanked members of the Morewood Recreation Centre who care for the Recreation Centre and Veterans’ View Park in the community, as well as hold several events throughout the year and noted the organization is looking for more volunteers.
