On June 23, 1898, the United Counties of Prescott-Russell incorporated the Police Village of Russell. One hundred and twenty-five years later over 200 people celebrated together at the Keith M. Boyd Museum. It was a warm evening, but the crowd filed out on the street to watch a performance by the Russell Village Ringers accompanied by ballroom dancers, Tom Manley, and Isabelle Masson, and two ballerinas from the Russell Children’s Ballet School. A beautiful cake donated by Russell Foodland was cut and distributed with ice cream and fresh local strawberries. We learned about the history of Police Villages from Tom Van Dusen and other 125th Village Anniversary projects from Dave Dyer. The appearance of Awfle Knawfle (AK) was a big hit with the adults who fondly remembered his 11 attempts at crossing the Castor River. AK was interviewed by local Coun. Marc Lalonde, posed for selfies and signed photos for his adoring fans. A great time was had by all!
