INGLESIDE – On Fri., Aug. 19, Ingleside resident Richard Waldroff submitted nomination papers for the position of deputy mayor in South Stormont. “I think it’s a great municipality to live in and a wonderful place to raise a family,” commented Waldroff during a recent interview with The Chesterville Record.

A life-long resident of South Stormont, Waldroff has served for six years as a councillor on the pre-amalgamation Osnabruck Township council and eight years on the Municipality of South Stormont council. The Lost Villages Museum, South Stormont Foundation, Long Sault Farmers’ Market, and the Ingleside Beautification Committee are a few of the many organizations in which Waldroff has served the community as a volunteer.

With a goal “to do the best job possible for my constituents, Waldroff mentioned he wishes to serve the community at both the municipal and SDG council, something which the position of deputy mayor of South Stormont can do. He mentioned how as deputy mayor he will be able to bring the concerns of SS residents to county council, as well as bring back to municipal council information from the SDG council.

He noted the municipality is being managed well, with a strong staff providing services to SS residents, noting the municipality has been changing over the past few years, with service needs changing as well.  The candidate feels some of the challenges that need to be addressed by the incoming council, which includes, the state of fire stations in Long Sault and Ingleside, improving rural roads, the development of the waterfront in the municipality and working to resolve issues with the treatment systems in both Ingleside and Long Sault.
