FINCH – Dougie Robinson, son of Jill and Doug Robinson, was one of 15 recipients from across Canada to be awarded the John Deere Canada 4-H Scholarship. Robinson, who graduated from Tagwi Secondary School in June of this year, plans to attend the Guelph Campus of Conestoga College to study Motive Power Techniques – Heavy Duty Equipment Repair.
In an Aug. 10 press release, 4-H Canada announced the recipients of the scholarship, noting how “thanks to the generosity of John Deere Canada,” each of the recipients will receive “$1,000 toward their post secondary education in a degree, certificate, or trade-based program for the upcoming academic year.” Robinson told The Chesterville Record recently he had learned of the scholarship opportunity through 4-H Canada and 4-H Ontario social media posts as well as “published communications.” He explained the process consisted of providing information on “yourself, your 4-H and community involvement as well as your future plans in the agricultural industry” in an online application form. Robinson continued a 500-word essay, and a “reference letter from a 4-H Leader” was required to be submitted to 4-H Canada as well.
Robinson commented how he encourages “all 4-H members to take part in as many 4-H clubs, camps and Provincial/National events as possible.” He continued that this participation provides opportunities for leadership and skill building as well as the opportunity to meet “so many great people.”
Robinson noted that participation in these activities are a great asset when “applying for awards, scholarships or a summer job.”
