OTTAWA—The Casselman Vikings played a trio of road games this past long weekend as they travelled to Alexandria on Friday night to take on the Glens, to Carleton Place on Saturday night to take on the Canadians and to Ottawa on Monday night to take on the Ottawa West Golden Knights.
Golden Knights 7 Vikings 6 (OT)
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Barbara Ann Scott Arena in Ottawa on Mon., Feb. 17 to take on the Ottawa West Golden Knights in the CCHL2. After temporarily moving into a third place tie with the Embrun Panthers, the Vikings fell back into fourth place after the Panthers beat the Alexandria Glens on Sunday.
The Vikings opened the scoring as Chris Egener scored his third goal the season from Adam Paquette and Jeremy Cyr at 2:10 of the first period, taking a 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights tied the game at 8:46 and took their first lead of the game with just six remaining in the opening frame and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Vikings knotted the affair at two when Nicolas Chartrand ripped home his ninth of the season from Alexandre Charlebois on the power play at 7:29 of the second period. The Vikings retook the lead when affiliated player, Antonio Paravan scored his first goal as a Viking at 9:12 from Jason Cossette and Xavier Léveillé.
The Vikings took a two-goal lead as Joshua Desjardins scored his fourth of the campaign from Léveillé just 12 seconds later. The Golden Knights cut the deficit to one at 13:55 on the power play. The Vikings retook a two-goal lead when François Drouin sniped his 27th of the season from Léveillé and Frèdérick Gagnier at 15:07.
The Golden Knights got to within one at 16:03 and tied the game at 17:50. The teams took a five-all draw into the second intermission. The Vikings retook the lead when Drouin scored his second of the game and 28th of the season from Desjardins at 6:21 of the third period.
The Golden Knights tied the game after getting a five-on-three power play at 18:40. Neither team was able to score before the end of regulation so the game headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime frame.
The Golden Knights ended the game at 3:38 of overtime picking up a 7-6 victory. With the single point earned, the Vikings moved to within one point of the third place Embrun Panthers. The Golden Knights outshot the Vikings 38-30.
Suffering the loss in the Vikings’ goal was Zachary Racine making 31 saves.
Canadians 6 Vikings 5 (OT)
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Carleton Place Arena on Sat., Feb. 15, to take on the Canadians in the CCHL2. The Vikings went into the game in fourth place in the Martin Division, just one point behind the Embrun Panthers in third place and five points behind the Ottawa Jr. Canadians.
The Vikings opened the scoring when François Drouin scored his 25th goal of the season from Samuel Labre and Shawn Patterson at 2:56 on the power play taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings made it 2-0 when affiliated player, Kevin Howson scored his third of the season from Labre and Patterson at 6:31 but the Canadians cut the deficit in half at 9:58.
The Vikings retook a two-goal lead when Alexandre Charlebois scored his 14th of the season from Drouin and Nicolas Chartrand at 13:39. The Canadians got back to within one with just 1:58 remaining in the opening frame.
The Vikings took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission. The Viking retook a two-goal lead when Joshua Desjardins scored his third of the season from Xavier Léveillé while shorthanded, just 56 seconds into the second period.
The Canadians answered with three unanswered goals at 7:40, 9:18 and with just three seconds remaining in the second frame. The Canadians took a 5-4 lead into the second intermission.
The Vikings knotted the affair at five when Drouin scored his second of the game and 26th of the season at 6:15 of the third period from Jason Cossette and Patterson. Neither team was able to find the back before the final buzzer sounded so the game headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime period.
In the extra frame it was the Canadians who ended the game just 54 seconds in, taking it 6-5. The Canadians outshot the Vikings 29-25.
Suffering the loss in the Vikings’ goal was Zacharie Racine making 23 saves.
Vikings 6 Glens 4
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Billy Gebbie Arena in Alexandria on Fri., Feb. 14 to take on the Glens in the CCHL2. The Vikings went into the game in fourth place in the Martin Division, just two points behind the Embrun Panthers in third and three points behind the second place Ottawa Jr. Canadians.
The Vikings opened the scoring when Samuel Lacroix fired home his third goal of the season from Xavier Léveillé and Jeremy Cyr at 7:28 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings made it 2-0 when Léveillé scored his seventh of the season, on an unassisted goal just nine seconds later, but the Glens got that one back at 9:14 to cut the Vikings’ lead to one.
The Vikings restored their two-goal lead when Lacroix scored his second of the game and fourth of the season unassisted at 15:19. With just 38 seconds remaining in the opening frame, the Glens closed the gap back to one but trailed 3-2 heading into the first intermission.
The Vikings retook a two-goal lead when François Drouin scored his 23rd of the season from Evan Huntley at 6:02 of the second period. The pesky Glens kept pace scoring at 6:56 but again, the Vikings took a two-goal lead as Drouin scored his second of the game and 24th of the season at 14:04 from Cyr and Samuel Labre.
The Vikings took a 5-3 lead into the second intermission. The Glens cut the deficit to one for a fourth time just 1:24 into the third period making it 5-4. The Vikings made it 6-4 when Alexandre Charlebois snapped home his 13th of the season unassisted at 9:32.
The Vikings hung on to take the game 6-4 and moved into a third place tie with the Embrun Panthers. The Vikings outshot the Glens 46-33.
Picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Zacharie Racine making 29 saves.
