CARP—The Morrisburg Lions played two road games this past weekend as they travelled to Metcalfe on Friday night to take on the Jets and to Carp on Saturday night to take on the West Carleton Inferno.

The Morrisburg Lions travelled to the W. Erskine Johnston Arena in Carp on Sat., Feb. 1, to take on the West Carleton Inferno in the NCJHL. The Lions had a chance to play spoiler to the Inferno as they sat just two points behind the Metcalfe Jets for the final playoff spot.
The Inferno opened the scoring just 1:10 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead but the Lions tied the game at 6:01 as Justice Brownlee ripped one to the back of the net from Wade Moak on the power play.
The Inferno retook the lead just 20 seconds later and made it 3-1 at 14:48 on the power play. The Lions cut the deficit to one when Griffin Patters pounded one home from Moak with just 1:28 remaining in the opening frame on the power play. The Inferno took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission.
The Inferno scored the lone goal of the second period with just 42 seconds remaining and took a 4-2 lead into the third period.
The Inferno netted three unanswered goals in the third period at 2:56, 15:15 on the power play and with just 1:38 remaining taking the game 7-2.
The Inferno moved back into the last playoff spot with the victory, and the Lions recorded their 26th loss of the season. The Inferno outshot the Lions 38-23.
Suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Riley Phillips making 31 saves.
Jets 8 Lions 3
The Morrisburg Lions travelled to the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe on Fri., Jan. 31, to take on the Jets in the NCJHL. The Jets were fighting for the final playoff spot heading into the game tied with the West Carleton Inferno; with 28 points apiece, while the Lions just looked to play the spoilers.
The Jets opened the scoring at 8:28 as Colin Faubert scored from Austin Hutt and MacKenzie Brewer taking a 1-0 lead. The Jets made it 2-0 when Connor Weatherhead scored from Connor Harty at 12:18 while shorthanded.
The Lions got that one back just 20 seconds later as Justice Brownlee sniped one from Kolten Oakes-Cook on the power play. The Jets retook a two-goal lead when Mikael Gibeault scored from Alexander MacNeil at 13:17 and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Lions got to within one as Easton Butterfield rifled one to the back of the net from Wade Moak and Oakes-Cook at 3:58 of the second period on the power play. The Jets answered back just 11 seconds later as Conor Roche scored from Brewer to make it 4-2.
The Jets took a 5-2 lead when Alexandre Cloutier scored from Gibeault at 5:40 and 6-2 as Chris Martin scored from Horvath and Cloutier on the power play at 10:13. Martin scored his second of the game at 14:47 unassisted to give the Jets a 7-2 lead.
The Jets closed out the scoring in the middle frame as Mike Armstrong scored from Horvath and Cameron Gallant at 15:05. The Jets took an 8-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Lions scored the lone goal of the third period as Chris Cote fired one to the back of the net unassisted at 4:21. The Jets hung on for an 8-3 victory moving two points up on the Inferno for the final playoff spot.
The Lions suffered their 25th loss of the season. The Jets outshot the Lions 38-32. Picking up the win in the Jets’ goal was Jett Miller making 29 saves and suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Kamden Suborn who was replaced by Riley Phillips in the second period as the duo stopped 28 shots.
