EMBRUN—The Embrun Panthers played three games this past week as they travelled to Ottawa on Tuesday night to take on the Ottawa Jr. Canadians, welcomed the Ottawa West Golden Knights on Friday night and went to Winchester on Sunday afternoon to take on the Hawks.

The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Ottawa West Golden Knights to the Palais des Sports on Fri., Jan. 24, in the CCHL2. The Panthers went into the game in third place in the Martin Division, just one point behind the Ottawa Jr. Canadians in second place and four points back of the Golden Knights. 

The Golden Knights opened the scoring at 5:15 when former Panther, Noah Haymes scored his 15th goal of the season taking a 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights made it 2-0 at 17:25 but Panthers got to within one as Cayden Martin scored his seventh of the season from Carter Peck and Cameron MacMillan on the power play with just 1:47 remaining in the opening frame. 

The Golden Knights took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Golden Knights scored the lone goal of the second period at 13:45 and took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. 

The Panthers got back to within one at 12:16 of the third period as Eric Skyba rifled home his 13th of the season from Martin and Matthieu Brennan on the power play. 

The Panthers pushed to tie the game but came up one goal short dropping the affair 3-2 to the Golden Knights. The Golden Knights outshot the Panthers 39-21. Suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was William Nguyen making 36 saves.

The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Earl Armstrong Arena in Ottawa to take on the Ottawa Jr. Canadians on Tues., Jan. 21, in the CCHL2. The Panthers went into the game in third place in the Martin Division, two points behind the Canadians in second place and five points ahead of the Casselman Vikings in fourth place. 

The Canadians opened the scoring just 1:28 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Canadians took a two-goal lead at 7:17 but the Panthers got on the board at 12:07 as John Mahoney scored his second goal of the season from Marshall Drevniok. 

The Canadians retook a two-goal lead at 14:33 on the power play and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. The Panthers got to within one as Robert Beaudoin scored his 15th of the season from Tristan Taillefer with just 16 seconds remaining in the middle frame. The Canadians took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. 

The Panthers knotted the affair at three when Taillefer scored his 26th of the campaign from Tyler Cummins and Cayden Martin at 13:02 of the third period. 

Neither team was able to score the game winner before time expired in regulation. The game then headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime period. The Canadians outshot the Panthers 5-4 in the overtime but neither team was able to find the back of the net, sending the game to a shootout.

After three rounds of shooters, neither team was able to score but the Panthers’ fourth shooter, Cayden Martin slid one home putting the pressure on the Canadians’ shooter. The Panthers’ goalie, William Nguyen, came up big making the save and giving the Panthers a 4-3 victory. The Panthers outshot the Canadians 39-36. 

Picking up the win in the Panthers’ goal was Nguyen making 33 saves.
