CHESTERVILLE—The North Dundas Rockets played a pair of weekend games as they travelled to Cardinal on Friday night to take on the South Grenville Rangers and welcomed the Metcalfe Jets on Saturday night.
Rockets 4 Jets 3
The North Dundas Rockets welcomed the Metcalfe Jets to the Chesterville Arena on Sat., Nov. 23, in the NCJHL. The Rockets failed to gain ground on the first place South Grenville Rangers the previous night dropping a 5-2 decision to the Rangers but still sat in sole possession of second place, four points ahead of the Jets in third place.
The teams battled to a scoreless first period with the Rockets outshooting the Jets 14-7. The Jets opened the scoring when Mike Armstrong scored from Colin Foubert at 6:12 of the second period taking a 1-0 lead.
The Rockets tied the game when Brad Nash pounded one home from a scramble in front of the net from Jack Dewan and Cameron Brown at 9:33. The Rockets took their first lead of the game when Nicholas Carroll scored on a breakaway from Joel Hunt at 10:15.
The Rockets took a two-goal lead when Brown launched one from the blue line to the back of the net from Justin Lefebvre and Brett Lannin on the power play at 13:45. The Rockets took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Jets got to within one at 9:46 of the third period as Alexander MacNeil scored from Cameron Gallant and Chris Mann. The Jets knotted the affair when Rocco Barresi slapped one home from Foubert at 14:08.
The Rockets retook the lead when Xavier Langevin sniped one from Joshua Tapp at 15:45. The Rockets were able to hold on defensively for the 4-3 victory. With the win, the Rockets moved temporarily to within nine points of the Rangers but the Rangers were able to defeat the Morrisburg Lions later in the night to regain an 11-point lead.
The Rockets outshot the Jets 44-37. Picking up the win in the Rockets’ goal was Sebastien Moreau making 34 saves and suffering the loss in the Jets’ goal was Jett Miller making 40 saves.
Rangers 5 Rockets 2
The North Dundas Rockets travelled to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal on Fri., Nov. 22, to take on the South Grenville Rangers in the NCJHL. The Rockets went into the game in second place in the West Division, nine points behind the first place Rangers who sat in the top spot.
The Rangers opened the scoring when Dylan Sharpley scored from Matthew O’Brien and Jordan Dodge at 6:27 of the first period. The Rangers took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Rangers made it 2-0 as Cole Edgley scored from Brayden Forestell and Matthew Berry at 13:17 of the second period. The Rockets cut the deficit in half when Aiden Whynot scored from Jack Van Kessel at 16:13 on the power play.
The Rangers took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. The Rangers made it 3-1 when Cooper Kingston scored from Jared Fenlong and Cameron Dillon just 28 seconds into the third period on the power play.
The Rangers added another goal at 1:04 as Connor Kennedy scored from Dodge and Sharpley to make it 4-1. The Rockets got to within two as Justin Lefebvre riffled one home from Cole Hodges at 4:34 but the Rangers closed out the scoring when Dodge scored from Mathieu Giroux and Sharpley at 14:37.
The Rangers shut the door taking the game 5-2. Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Tyler Desjardins and suffering the loss in the Rockets’ goal was Sebastien Moreau. With the win, the Rangers moved 11 points up on the Rockets to remain at the top of the division.
