WINCHESTER—The annual Mayor’s Community Breakfast, hosted by the Township of North Dundas and Mayor Tony Fraser, took place on Fri., Nov. 15, at the Joel Steele Community Centre. The morning began with a pancake breakfast, followed by an introduction by councillor Tyler Hoy; Pastor Mathew Gates of the Southgate Church in Winchester said grace, SDSG MPP Jim McDonell offered some words and then Fraser spoke on the success of the township in 2019.
Fraser spoke of the success of all the Meet Me on Main Streets, and added that next year there will be a sixth stop on the tour which will be Marionville. He mentioned and thanked the volunteers from the fairs in the township that bring a lot of people together and are good for the township.
He also said he was very impressed with the turnout for the Winchester Bike Nights and looks forward to seeing those nights return in 2020. Fraser also talked about other upgrades and construction which took place this season throughout North Dundas. Following the mayor, there was a special guest speaker, Dr. Kim Hellemans from the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University who specializes in the adverse affects of stress and addictions.
The crowd of 150 were focused on her presentation on all the problems associated with stress and how if affects certain people differently. The breakfast drew to a close when councillor John Thompson offered Hellemans a gift basket filled with locally produced items. Thompson thanked everyone for coming out.
