MORRISBURG—The Morrisburg Lions played back to back games against the West Carleton Inferno as they travelled to Carp for their first meeting on Saturday night and back to Morrisburg on Sunday afternoon for their second game of the series.
Lions 5 Inferno 1
The Morrisburg Lions welcomed the West Carleton Inferno to the Morrisburg Arena on Sun., Nov. 3, in the NCJHL. The Lions were coming off a disappointing loss to the Inferno the previous night and were still looking for their first win of the season.
The teams battled to a scoreless first period for the second consecutive game with the Lions outshooting the Inferno 14-12. The Lions opened the scoring when Justice Brownlee swatted one home from from Tyler Rae at 16:28 of the second period on the power play.
The Lions took the 1-0 lead into the second intermission. The Inferno wasted no time tying the game scoring just 58 seconds into the third period. The Lions retook the lead when Aaron Smith snapped one home from Jake Amo and Justin Shay at 4:17.
The Lions took a two-goal lead when Greg McMullen blasted one home from the slot at 10:11 from Aiden Daly on the power play. The Lions made it 4-1 when Smith scored his second of the game from Rae at 12:09, again on the power play.
The Lions closed out the scoring when Brownlee scored his second of the game from Jack Ingram and Rae at 13:21 on another power play. The Lions hung on for a 5-1 victory picking up their first win of the season. The Lions outshot the Inferno 40-36.
Picking up the win in the Lions’ goal was Riley Phillips making 35 saves.
Inferno 4 Lions 2
The Morrisburg Lions travelled to the Carp Arena on Sat., Nov. 2, to take on the West Carleton Inferno in the NCJHL. The Lions were still looking for their first win of the season while the Inferno were looking for their third. The teams battled to a scoreless first period.
The Inferno opened the scoring at 2:53 of the second period taking a 1-0 lead. The Lions evened the score when Justice Brownlee lit the lantern from Tyson Sherrer at 15:52 on the power play. The Inferno retook the lead with just 1:18 remaining in the sandwich frame taking a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Inferno took a two-goal lead at 8:37 but the Lions answered right back 18 seconds later as Brownlee scored his second of the game from Jack Ingram and Aaron Smith. The Inferno closed-out the scoring on the power play at 16:19 taking the game 4-2.
The Lions outshot the Inferno 37-28. Suffering the loss in the Lions’ goal was Kamden Sabourin making 24 saves.
