PERTH—The Embrun Panthers played a pair of games this past weekend as they welcomed the Casselman Vikings on Friday night and travelled to Perth Sunday afternoon to take on the Blue Wings.

The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Perth Arena on Sun., Oct. 27, to take on the Blue Wings in the CCHL2. After knocking off the Casselman Vikings with an 8-4 victory in their previous game, the Panthers moved into a third place tie with the Ottawa West Golden Knights and looked to take sole possession of third in the Martin Division. 

The Panthers opened the scoring when Robert Beaudoin scored his ninth goal of the season from Tristan Taillefer and Tyler Cummins at 4:06 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Blue Wings tied the game at 12:12 on the power play but the Panthers retook the lead at 13:22 as Maverick Labrie scored his first of the season from Jeremy Cyr. The Panthers took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. 

The Blue Wings scored the lone goal of the second period at 13:10 and the teams took a two-all draw into the second intermission.  

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period, so the game headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime period. Each team fired three shots on goal in  the extra frame, but neither was able to pull off a victory so the game headed to a shootout. 

After each teams’ first two shooters missed, the Blue Wings’ third shooter scored. The Panthers needed a goal in order to force another round in the shootout but their third shooter was stopped as the Blue Wings pulled off a 3-2 victory. 

The Blue Wings outshot the Panthers 48-34. Suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was Felix Schnell making 45 saves. 

Panthers 8 Vikings 4

The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Casselman Vikings to the Palais des Sports on Fri., Oct. 25, in the CCHL2. The Panthers went into the game in a fourth place tie with the Winchester Hawks in the Martin Division and two points behind the Ottawa West Golden Knights for third place.  

The Panthers opened the scoring when Eric Skyba scored his first goal of the season from Tyler Cummins and Alexandre Caron just 2:47 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings tied the game as Mathieu Talbot scored his eighth of the season from Samuel Labre at 4:39. 

The Panthers retook the lead when Juno Gregoire scored his sixth of the season from Matthieu Brennan at 5:12. The Panthers took a two-goal lead when Tristan Taillifer scored his 11th of the season unassisted at 7:47. 

The Panthers kept the pressure on and at 8:39, Robert Beaudoin scored his seventh of the season from Cayden Martin and Luke Peck. The Panthers took a four-goal lead when Marshall Drevniok scored his first Junior goal from Samuel Levesque (affiliated player) at 9:06. The Panthers took a 5-1 lead into the first intermission. 

The Vikings got one back at 9:38 of the second period as Frédérick Gagnier scored his third of the season from Xavier Léveillé and Jason Cossette on the power play. 

The Panthers restored their four-goal lead when Taillefer scored his second of the game and 12th of the season from Beaudoin and Brennan on the power play at 11:05. The Panthers made it 7-2 when Jeremy Cyr scored his first of the season from Maverick Labrie and Nathan Brown at 16:05. 

The Panthers closed out the scoring in the second period as Beaudoin scored his second of the game and eighth of the season from Martin and John Mahoney with just 1:09 showing on the clock. The Panthers took an 8-2 lead into the second intermission. 

The Vikings closed the gap to five, when Talbot scored his second of the game and ninth of the season from Justin Gregoire at 11:38. Talbot completed his hat trick at 16:20 scoring his 10th of the season from Léveillé but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers took the game 8-4. 

The Panthers outshot the Vikings 46-39. Picking up the win in the Panthers’ goal was William Nguyen making 35 saves and suffering the loss in the Vikings’ goal was Zachari Racine making 20 saves on 26 shots; he was replaced by Charle Schenkel who made 18 saves on 20 shots.
