WINCHESTER—The Winchester Hawks played two games this past week as they travelled to Brockville on Wednesday night to take on the Tikis and returned the favour welcoming the Tikis on Friday night.
Hawks 2 Tikis 1 (OT)
The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Brockville Tikis to the Joel Steele Community Centre for the second half of a home and home on Fri., Oct. 25, in the CCHL2. The Hawks were coming off a 4-1 loss in the first game of the home and home and looked to get even.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period but the Hawks outshot the Tikis 16-11. The teams battled to a second scoreless period but this time the Tikis outshot the Hawks 14-11.
The Hawks opened the scoring at 7:34 of the third period as Nicolas Cory slapped home his first goal of the season from Nolan Guertin and Nathan Lassemba taking a 1-0 lead. The Tikis tied the game at 17:28. The time ran down in regulation so the game headed to a five-minute three-on-three overtime period.
In the extra frame it didn’t look good for the Hawks, taking a penalty at 2:29 giving the Tikis a four on three advantage. The Hawks turned the tables as Kyle Green scored his fifth of the season while shorthanded 22 seconds later from Cam Cotnam; allowing the Hawks to take the game 2-1.
With the win, the Hawks moved to within two points of the Embrun Panthers after they took down the Martin Division leaders, the Casselman Vikings. The Tikis outshot the Hawks 43-37.
Picking up the win in the Hawks’ goal was Cole Defazio making 42 saves.

The Winchester Hawks travelled to the Brockville Memorial Centre on Wed., Oct. 23, to take on the Tikis in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in a fourth place tie with the Embrun Panthers in the Martin Division.
The Tikis opened the scoring at 4:59 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks knotted the affair when Colby Schroeder scored his first goal of the season from Ryan Nielson and Kyle Kuehni at 9:57. The teams took a one-all draw into the first intermission.
The Tikis took their second lead of the game, with just 1:37 remaining in the second period. The Tikis took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Tikis made it 3-1 at 3:58 into the third period on the power play and closed out the scoring at 17:57 while shorthanded.
The Tikis hung on to take the game 4-1. The Hawks outshot the Tikis 32-23. Suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Lucas Devries making 19 saves.
