The South Grenville Rangers hosted their annual home opener as they welcomed the West Carleton Inferno to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal on Sat., Sept. 28, in the NCJHL. CARDINAL—The South Grenville Rangers played a pair of the games this past weekend as they welcomed the West Carleton Inferno on Saturday night and travelled to Morrisburg on Sunday afternoon to take on the Lions. There were near 300 fans who packed the track, to take in the Rangers’ home opener.

The South Grenville Rangers hosted their annual home opener as they welcomed the West Carleton Inferno to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal on Sat., Sept. 28, in the NCJHL. The Rangers opened their season with a 7-2 victory over the Inferno at the NCJHL Showcase and looked to continue their dominance. 

The Rangers opened the scoring at 12:43 of the first period, as Dylan Sharply roofed one from Brody Ranger taking a 1-0 lead. The Rangers took a two-goal lead when Rangers lit the lamp from Sharpley and Mathieu Giroux at 17:11. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Rangers made it 3-0 when Copper Kingston pounded one to the back of the net from Matthew Berry and Jacob Servage at 0:31 of the second period. The Inferno got one back at 11:46 to cut the deficit to two. The Rangers took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. 

The Rangers took a three-goal lead when Sharpley scored his second of the game from Ranger and Matthew O’Brien at 6:53. The Rangers made it 5-1 as Cameron Dillon snapped one to the back the net from from Jared Fenlong and Braydon Forestell at 10:20 and 6-1 at 16:15, as Servage rifled one home from Jordan Dodge on the power play. 

The Rangers closed out the scoring when Cole Edgley sniped one from Jordan Poulin and Dillon with just 33 seconds remaining in the game. The Rangers took the game 7-1, improving to 2-0 on the season.Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Sam Limoges-Ring.
