EMBRUN—The Embrun Panthers played two games this past weekend as they travelled to Westport on Friday night to take on the Rideaus and welcomed the Renfrew Timberwolves on Sunday afternoon.
Panthers 6 Timberwolves 2
The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Renfrew Timberwolves to the Palais des Sports on Sun., Sept. 29, in the CCHL2. The Panthers were coming off a shutout loss to the Westport Rideaus the previous night and were slipping down the Martin Division standings; in dire need of a victory. The Timberwolves sat in sixth place in the Richardson Division with two wins and two losses.
The Panthers opened the scoring when Juno Gregoire scored his second goal the season from Oskar Mollot and Carter Peck just 1:48 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Panthers made it 2-0 when Robert Beaudoin scored his first of the season from Cayer Martin at 5:11.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Timberwolves cut the deficit in half at 5:59 of the second period but the Panthers retook a two-goal lead when Beaudoin scored his second of the game and season from Alexandre Caron and Martin at 9:49.
The Panthers took a three-goal lead when Tristan Taillefer scored his third of the season from Nathan Brown and Tyler Cummins at 12:45 and took a 4-1 lead into the second period.
The Panthers took a four-goal lead just 49 seconds into the third period as Taillefer scored his second of the game from Brown and Alexandre Caron.
The Panthers went right back down and scored again just 49 seconds later, as Taillefer completed a natural hat trick and scored his fifth of the season from Brown and Caron. The Timberwolves closed out the scoring late in the third period at 16:34 but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers took the game 6-2.
With the win, the Panthers moved to .500 and sit in sixth place. The Panthers outshot the Timberwolves 54-32. Picking up the win in the Panthers’ goal was William Nguyen making 30 saves.
Rideaus 2 Panthers 0
The Embrun Panthers travelled to the Westport Arena on Fri., Sept. 27, to take on the Rideaus in the CCHL2. The Panthers opened their season with a win and a loss the previous weekend and looked to battle for top spot in the Martin Division, while the Rideaus held down top spot in the Richardson Division.
The Rideaus opened the scoring just 1:12 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Rideaus outshot the Panthers 19-8 in the first period but the Panthers goalie, William Nguyen held the Panthers in the game. The Rideaus took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Rideaus pounded another 20 shots at Nguyen in the second period but he turned them all away. The Rideaus carried the 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
The play was a little more even in the third period and with time winding down, the Panthers pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but with just nine seconds remaining the Rideaus found the yawning cage.
The Rideaus took the game 2-0, handing the Panthers their second loss of the season. The Rideaus outshot the Panthers in the game 51-25. Suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was Nguyen making 50 saves.
