EMBRUN—The Embrun Panthers opened their season up with a pair of home games as they welcomed the Ottawa Jr. Canadians on Friday night and the Westport Rideaus on Sunday afternoon.
Panthers 2 Rideaus 1
The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Westport Rideaus to the Palais des Sports on Sun., Sept. 22, in the CCHL2. The Panthers were coming off a 3-2 loss to the defending Martin Division champions, the Ottawa Jr. Canadians in their previous game and looked to right the ship.
The Rideaus opened the scoring at 4:15 of the first period. The Rideaus outshot the Panthers 16-12 in the first period and took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Rideaus pounded 11 more shots at the Panthers’ goalie, William Nguyen in the second period but neither team was able to score.
The Panthers knotted the affair just 45 seconds into the third period as Jarrett Ladouceur scored his first goal of the season from Robert Beaudoin and Cayden Martin on the power play. The Panthers took their first lead of the game, when Juno Gregoire scored his first of the season from Tristan Taillefer and Riley Carisse at 14:23.
The Rideaus pulled their goalie in favour of the extra attacker in the last minute and a half to try to get the equalizer but the Panthers were able to hold them off taking the game 2-1. The Panthers outshot the Rideaus 18-8 in the third period but each team fired 35 shots overall on their opponent’s goal.
Picking up the win in the Panthers’ goal was Nguyen making 34 saves.
Canadians 3 Panthers 2
The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Ottawa Jr. Canadians to the Palais des Sports on Fri., Sept. 19, for their CCHL2 home opener. The Panthers didn’t have a good preseason losing their four games but all were very close games and they do have a lot of speed on the team.
The Panthers opened the scoring when Tristan Taillefer scored his first goal of the season against his old team just 53 seconds into the first period unassisted to take a 1-0 lead. The Canadians tied the game at 11:11 and took the lead at 12:11; they took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Panthers tied the game, when Taillefer scored his second of the game and season at 17:14 of the second period from Juno Gregoire and Riley Carisse on the power play. The Panthers dominated on the shot clock 18-4 but settled for a two-all draw heading into the second intermission.
The Canadians retook the lead at 14:51 of third period. The defending Martin Division champions, the Canadians hung on to take the game 3-2. The Panthers outshot the Canadians 40-30. Suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was William Nguyen making 27 saves.
